Just recently I traded for a "custom" 722 BDL chambered in 257 Ackley from the 1950s. I don't know much about it other than it has a 25" unmarked barrel that is free floated, trigger worked to 1#, very nice wood, and a period Redfield 3X9. Shooting factory 117 grain loads showed minute accuracy so I can't wait to start handloading. The total package weighs around 8#s with scope and will find its way into the woodchuck fields (if my pistols will forgive me a little). Anybody else shoot a Rem 722?....RW

Slick looking Remington and the 257 Ackley is a classic. I don't own any 722's, but I always liked they way they hold. I know they're similar to a 700, but for some reason they just point better. Let us know how it shoots. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Thanks Lee, I will let you know how she shoots. I figure it will be a nice rifle for my daughters to use for deer hunting. Just have to wait a little till they get their pistol permits and then I'll convert them....RW

I shoot a 722B in 257 roberts with a 4x12 leupold vx11 on it, I seem to like the older rifles more than new one. when i learn how to post a pick I'll show you mine

Wow! Beautiful 722. Love those old guns. Back in the early 80s, I passed on the purchase of a custom 722 in 257 Roberts. The old man who ran a general store & gun shop in Milnesand, NM pulled it out to show me one day. He'd had the action lengthened so heavy bullets could be seated out, and it had a cheekpiece beautifully inlaid into the stock. Unless he'd told me, I would never have known, it matched so well. He even had a handwritten letter from Jack O'Conner, answering his question about what load to use on elk! As I recall, it said something like, "First of all, I wouldn't use the .257Rob on elk, but if I did..." He went on to list a load with something like a 130gr or 140gr Barnes bullet! Wish I'd bought that rifle...

The 722 and 721 are excellent rifles. IMHO they shoot just as well if not better than production built today! Scott btw- you got a real winner there in a great cartridge

Those both look like Frank De Haas got ahold of them at one time or another. I love the lines of the buttstock and pistol grip on your rifle Mooshoo. Ravenwolf, that stock has some great looking grain!
