Stopped by a local shop today at lunch and noticed that they had a 4 inch Colt Anaconda 45lc on the shelf for $1500. It's been used, but it's also wearing a mirror polish. How are the anacondas for durability and would you guys recomend I jump on it? I've got a chopped 4inch new service but was planning on Mr. Horvath converting it to a Fitz (but keeping the trigger guard).
Appreciate your time,
Terry

I know little about the Anaconda but everything I've read about them indicates they're very strong guns. They're made on quite a very beefy frame. That said, I don't understand the inflated prices that many Colts command, especially their DA revo's. I bought a 4" S&W M25 .45 Colt brand new 10 years ago for $600. Even adjusted for inflation, $1500 seems like a bit much to me.

I have one that somebody blew the top strap off of. I bought it for the barrel. I'd be careful! Nice gun. I wouldn't cut it up if it was in good condition and I cut everything up.

The old new service I have already has a chopped barrel with a long ramp and dovetail sight. I wouldn't cut that anaconda, only 500 were made in 45 colt with the 4 inch barrel.
Thanks,
Terry

They have a bigger cylinder than a Ruger Blackhawk, in diameter.

Ive read there right in between a S&W 25 and a Ruger redhawk strength wise, if I was going to drop 1500.00 on a double action I would start with ether a smith or a Ruger and have it tuned and customized rather then pay for the name stamped on the side.

I think you're right, the money could go to a one of my other projects. I've already got one of the old 44 Flattops that BCA converted to 45 colt.
Thanks guys for the advice.

I should read the whole post carefully...Thought you were going to do the Fitz thing on the Anaconda...

PLEASE tell me you are not still debating this purchase, that is a great price on a rare Colt, only going up and up!

I agree. If you have the money to spare it would be a great shooter and heirloom. Don't try to hotrod it and it will last. I would love to have one but I'm really happy with my Mountain Gun in 45 Colt. It doesn't get hotrodded but it gets shot often. I actually would like a blued Mountain Gun too.

I went back at lunch yesterday and it had sold 90 minutes earlier... from an internet ad.
I picked a shooter grade mixed serial number 1st gen colt fitted with 38spl barrel and cylinder instead. Frame from 1880, trigger guard and grip frame from 1892. Barrel address on the right side. All new screws and although reblued, not overbuffed.
Kind of a consolation purchase but should be fun
