On July 17th of this year I made the statement that if my part of Idaho ever saw another Model 69 I would do my best to look it over and if my impressions were positive I would buy it.
Well got the call from my favorite gun pusher today that a Model 69 was on their premises and before putting it out for public perusal I could come by and check it out!
My first impression was nice size, good heft, well fitted and finished with the brushed finish and appealing with tight lockup on cylinder and tight cylinder gap. Action needs work if you're going to shoot this DA. If you're a single action guy then the Smith and this example is the epitome of single action letoff.
Double action feels like one is attempting to close the Brandenburg gate with one finger!
Gun is now on layaway and the box has my name on it. Looking forward to trying some great 44 Special loads in the weapon and some mild 44 Mag. rounds.
I shoot 1000-1100fps loads in all my 44s Specials or magnums, except for an old 1950 Target that gets shot sparingly with a 240 SWC at 800fps.
As another owner of a Model 69 reported; new Wolff springs, Ahrend grips, and new front sight, should make this the perfect utility handgun. I'll keep you updated.
Yeah it's a new Smith and Wesson and I look forward to using and enjoying the 69. I also own a front wheel drive, automatic transmission, air-conditioned car with a supercharger. We drive and move on!

Great score! Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding/shooting. If it shoots well, you can safely ignore all the nonsense people level at newer Smiths.

Thanks Max. Bought a 625PC several years ago, and the 625 is crazy accurate. That gun got me past the lock hang up. I grew up waiting for S&W to build something besides Model 10s with 6" pencil barrels, wanting them to build something I wanted. In the past few years they have done that. The 69 holds real promise and I look forward to seeing how this will play out. Looks like new leather is in the offing, as I don't own any L frames that are 4.25" or longer.

I been watching those on Gunbrokers as one vendor is selling them for $669. Very tempting!
