I recently came into possession of a LAR Grizzly Mark 1 pistol. This is a two-tone beast of a 1911 chambered for 45 Winchester Magnum. It has a stainless frame under a blue slide and barrel. The barrel extends from the conventional bushing and I gather it to be 6 inches in length. The frame wears wraparound rubber Pachmayers; Millet adjustable sights are on the slide. It also came with a separate, conversion kit chambered in .357 Magnum. The pistol and the conversion unit are unfired, new in the box with the factory manual. Anyone have an idea regarding the approximate value of this package? I inherited the pistol from my nephew who was tragically killed in an ATV accident over the 4th of July. I am helping my sister sell my nephew's gun collection to help with related expenses.
Thanks and God bless.
Hugh

Groo here I have a very early one with a 357 kit . Shoots well but will bulge the case with hotter 45mag. Not made, won't be, according to LAR. Something to do with a law suit I hear.

I am putting this here as it is not worth its own thread but I spoke to Jack Huntington again last week and he said the person who is modifying my Grizzly Mk I magazines so they will hold .475 Wildey rounds is finally sending them back, one by one. He said I should get my gun back by Thanksgiving but after four years I am not holding my breath but it will be nice if he is correct.

I always wanted one in 50 A.E. I'd think in unfired with the 357 kit, it's likely worth somewhere around $1500 - $2500... I'd check Gun Broker for similar listings for some sort of record... EDIT... just did a search, & saw blued one in 45 Win Mag ( without the 357 kit ) with a bid at $2000 & this "rare" 2 tone with no bids & no 357 kit... with a buy it now at $2500 www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=446648855so unfired with the 357 kit, it may go as high as $3500

I spoke with Herr Huntington last week and the magazine modifier is still playing the waiting game so it hopefully will show up before Valentines Day. Jack has been good to me and as when the custom reamer he has had to have made arrives for my revolver, I may get both guns at the same time next year. That would make for an enjoyable time at the range next year. Merry Christmas to all.

Well some good news. I just finished speaking with J. Huntington and the magazines for my modified Mk. I to .475 Wildey are finished and returned.
It now needs finishing touches and should be back in my hands by Easter.
I will put up pictures when it gets here. Bob

I just got an E-mail from Bar-Sto and they still make barrels for the Grizzly pistols up to 6.5 inches in length.
So if you have a Grizzly and want-need a barrel, their prices are probably lower than the prices I have seen on Gunbroker.

Hmmm, another Easter has come and gone and no Grizzly. I called Jack and it seems polishing and bluing the Grizzly is a problem due to metals used in a Grizzly. Last try gave him a iridescent color, which I said would have been different but he was not happy with it.

I called Jack a couple of days ago and asked if I would see my Grizzly by the 4th of July and he said probably but as I was afraid might happen, polishing the tough steel it is made out of is a far, far more difficult than they expected. If I do not make a trek to get some illegal fireworks for the Fourth of July, maybe I will be able to liven up the day by making holes in paper a louden boomer .475 Grizzly for the first time. I am going to start paying for my Mod. Herter's he has this month. It was started over a year after the Grizzly and may be done about the same time.

I just got off of the phone with Jack H. and got the latest on my Grizzly and Herter's revolver.
The reamer he got for the Grizzly was too small but fortunately Hamilton B. had one he could borrow.
As it is, except for that, the Grizzly is finished but he said said it looks like the revolver will probably be done before the Grizzly even though he had it near two years shorter time than the Grizzly.
I have started to send money for the Herter's, Grizzly is paid for, so I may have both by the end of next year.

Congrats I used to do a lot of shooting with my Grizzly's sorry to say no longer have it - but have loads of ammo left in 45 Win Mag & a few boxes of 475 Wildey - drop me a line if you need some .I would also be interested in trading some for 10 MM ammo thats the only hot load I shoot now

Having spoken to Jack several times this year I thought I might be posting pictures right about now but ---- maybe by the fourth of July.
I am and have been fighting the County to keep my Aunt in her house so the hand guns have not been high on my radar, I missed a great deal on bullets because of how damned miserable this has turned out to be. Anyway.
Both guns are paid for. I doubt Jack is really making any money on them with the deal he gave me, which is why I am patient.
As of last week the cylinder for the Herter's was out for heat treating and reamer problems with the Grizzly were being addressed. As soon as I get one I will post pictures.
Jack did send me a picture a couple of months ago of both hand guns, in disassembled state, on the work bench. Maybe I will be able to celebrate the Fourth of July with them added to my louden boomer fireworks.

The Herter's half of the two guns arrived last week. When Jack sends me the .458 cases he has and said he has no use for now so he will send them to me, I will load some up and see how it shoots. I will post a picture some time in the near future.
