I was wondering if anybody has any experience with Shaw rifles? I desperately need a 260 AI and I was going to order a Shaw rifle with a heavy 26" spiral fluted barrel on their Savage action. The only reason I have not placed my order is they have a 12 month wait and they do not offer a thumbhole stock. They will not ship me a barreled action sans stock either. Their rifles would be cheaper than my smith can put one together for me even with purchasing a replacement stock for the one the rifle comes with. Anybody know of a semi-custom rifle out there that would be comparable to the $1100 Shaw price tag with a better turn around time?

Doesn't Shaw offer barreling services anymore? I sent them an action once and they barreled it for me, and I did a plastic drop in stock for it.

They do barrel actions but I don't have an action and then I would have to buy a new trigger etc.

The only experience I've had with them annoyed me to no end. I was ready to order one of their rifles in left hand, .257 Roberts, but wanted it built on their short action. Sent them a letter (email) outlining EXACTLY what I wanted, taking great pains to mention the action length specifically.
They, in turn, sent me an invoice with no mention whatsoever of the action length. Hookay, let's try again. Sent them the original letter, along with their reply, and an additional note, again specifically inquiring about action length.
I got a reply that was a duplicate of their first!
Simple solution on my part. I bought a left hand, short action Savage Model 10 and ordered a McGowan barrel in .257 Roberts. Shaw had their chance and blew it. Might seem like a silly thing to get annoyed about, but if I'm going to order and pay for what is essentially a built to order rifle, I think it be hooves the maker to answer a simple question.

I had a .338-06 barrel of theirs screwed onto a post 64 M70 action I had. Shot fairly well, about 1.5 MOA on average after much load development. Had it a couple years and sold it. A friend of mine had a K98 rebarreled (8x57) by them and is still shooting after about 3500 rounds thru it, but accuracy has been falling off fairly rapidly. I think given their somewhat spotty reputation for quality I would probably not go that route again.
