We all know you can make a single action shoot. Do you think you could make a single shot rifle that'll run with the soon to be FA? The short days of winter will be here before you know it.

I need to check the rifle section more often....sorry for the late reply. When it comes to rifles, I need to get my dad on the forum. He's been building benchrest rifles for years on his own action (started back in the early 1970s). He's done quite a few single-shots though, to include this 22 Marciante Blue Streak on a Falling Works: Home-made form and benchrest dies: I had it out this spring and it cut ragged little holes at 100 yards. I'll have to check, but I think it's a Hart barrel. The glass is an old 10X Unertl. -Lee www.singleactions.com

...but that being said, I do build rifles now and again. This is a 475 Ackley I finished last winter on a stainless Model 70:

Is that .475 the one that'll compete with the FA? I guess competing with that proposed FA or building something that will run with it,....considering your custom fabricating and machining abilities,....probably isn't that big of a deal for you huh?

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but we're no Freedom Arms.....just a couple of guys that like building guns as a hobby. -Lee www.singleactions.com

how does your dad's blue streak do for accuracy? I've had many 1/4" five-shot groups at 100 yards with the gun. It likes Reloader 7 and Rubright bullets (not sure those are even made anymore, but we have some old stock). -Lee www.singleactions.com

So he's got a 3-4" 1000 yard rifle.

Humble is good,...but I can't see any rifle doing much better.

It does pretty good at 100 though. As for accuracy, a 1/4" used to be outstanding. When we shot benchrest in the late 80's and early 90's, screamers were still uncommon (ie, 5-shots in 0.1" or less @ 100). Nowadays, lots of competition guns routinely shoot less than 0.2" and "a-tenth-or-less" is common. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Does that have a slower twist barrel??
I'm putting together an AR,....more for something to do than anything,...but i have been reading a lot about them. Saw a recent article about a factory Stag 6.8 that shot a .113" 100yd group with factory ammo. Now that,...is pretty scary IMHO.

JT,
I believe the answer to your (rhetorical?) question is that most enjoy being outside in the sunshine a lot more than being cooped up indoors. Then there are things like sun tea, fresh tomato sandwiches, the crickets singing you to sleep, a good BBQ,......etc,....to go along with that sunshine. There is a lot more to miss.
A little historical fact for you gents,.....sun tea/sweet tea was originally made in the south with green tea. the civil war blockades changed that to this day.
