Well it's about time!! I've been patiently waiting to see this one. To me this is one of the great ones. Now you know ragged target pictures are in line! I'm thinking 13gr of 2400 sitting underneath a 170gr Keith would be just about perfect for that revolver. Nice snag there Axe, as usual.

That's about as good as it gets S&W wise. Now you need to find a 3 1/2 " and a 4" to go with.

Check out the fit of those grip panels. Those were the days.

Just about to order some Hogue wood to try on this thing. The CMP DSR match requires us shoot 158/160 grain RN or SWC bullets at 50 yards for slow fire and 25 yards for timed and rapid. I'm shooting SA at 50 and DA at the 25 yard line. Nice to have a good excuse to pick up some nice blue steel revolvers. Looking forward to seeing what this one will do.

Swapped out the grips and installed a spring kit last night. Gun looks like a new gun under the sideplate.

Great find. I haven't seen a pre-model 27 S&W 357 for sale in these parts for a long time. How about a photo with the new grips?

not that it really means much axe but think you have snatched up one of the PREMIER .357 Magnums out there. am younger than many but was weaned on S&W revolvers. have owned ,repaired, modified, shot and just plain old fashioned caressed a ton on Nframes in .357. its big, huge but incredibly smooth shooting machine. currently have two model 27s on hand both 8-3/8, one shooter picked up at a bargain because rear sight was damaged and a NIB that forgot i had had since '91 when bought it distributer in Texas. my 3rd is a M28 4incher that was liberated after was traded into a local dealer with timing issues, lol, some idiot had stripped it and didnt reinstall hand spring, can we say CHEAP. the last pre-m27 i saw a great friend bought, circa '53 production and immaculate condition after laying in collection all these years

Very, very nice! I'm a fan of the M-27. I got my first one back in the late 70's,, a 8-3/8" gun. And I found 3 of the 5" guns. (I looked a lot thanks to Skeeter.) Well, I made the mistake of letting those fine sixguns slip away,,, and have regretted it over the years. Now,, I'm the proud owner of another 8-3/8", and a 5" again. I also have a M-19 that was used as a "stand in" until I found some 27's. I've never owned a pre-27, 5 screw,,, but I've lusted for them! Congrats on a great find!

I think that through the years I've owned every barrel length S&W model 27 ever made. This is my first pre 27 of any barrel length. You boys don't even want to see it with the new rubber grips. The rules for the CMP DSR match say no finger or thumb support. Looking at what was out there and what I'd liked in the past reminded me that my old DA only NRA Action gun wears the Pachmayr Presentation grips because they worked best for me 30 years ago.. FWIW if it doesn't really show out I've go a pseudo S&W collector forum member chomping at the bit to take it off my hands.

That is sweet. The 27 5" may be my favorite N frame.
