No one can truly appreciate the freedoms and gracious plenty that we as a country enjoy until they have a yardstick by which to measure it. Once you have spent a few months - or years - in some third world backwater where even clean drinking water is not a given, personal security a matter of planning, and the sound of your own language is foreign, then you realize just how fortunate you are to have been born a citizen of the United States. Thanks to all that have sacrificed so that my children and grandchildren will remain free. I, for one, am proud to be an American.
