Doing some reloading this morning, noticed that some of my primer pockets are dark around the primers. I noticed this while shooting, but figured I'd ask you guys what this is typically a sign of. It looks like a bad primer seal, letting gas flow backwards and even erode some of the brass around the pocket as it went. In my box of 60-some reloads, I see 2-4 that are like this. Also, one of my clean, normal cases looks like it is showing signs of much lower pressure than the other three cases. Load was 18.7gr of 2400 under a 240JHC, Winchester LP. Fired in a Ruger Vaquero. Brass is 2-3x's fired.

Notice any difference in seating pressure? Could be the primer pockets have enlarged or primers may not be a good fit. CCI primers are usually a tad bigger around, you might try them and see if it still happens, but I doubt it will.

Look at three of them, top two and bottom right. Those three have signs of the primer hitting the frame window to me, flat and machine marks on it from the frame. I have seen this several times and is not always a sign of high pressure as some think, but it can be. Other things can be a high primer, or worn pockets or a tad small primer. I would take a file and put a nick in them to identify them and see if they do it again. If they do I would pitch them myself. Hate to say it and hate to see it be starline, but with all the craziness going on culls will slip through when trying to get as much product out as possible. Jeff

Had exact same thing shooting 44 mags in my freedom arms 83. Decap those cases and catch the primers. Look at the top on bevel, ill bet you can see a tiny pin hole that has carbon leaking. Had the same shooting near max book loads. Even sent gun back to FA to repair cause breech was severely pitted. And I caught it after about 10 shots. The 83 can handle much hotter loads. Turns out its defective primer cups that give out at much lower pressures then should. Mine were fed gm mag. Also with REM or win. Suspect they all get like cup material. Happened with the frenzy when manufacture quality took a dive to quantity..(money) search around other forums,we not the only ones experienceing this, and check your guns cause its damaging them on breechface...
