Does anyone know of or have a military take-off barrel in 7.65mm Argentine or Belgian (AKA 7.65x53)? I'm looking for one for a project. It can be from a model '91 or '09 and needs to have a very good bore, but the exterior can be a little rough, as long as it's not deeply pitted. I'm in the Huntsville, AL area.

I have a die set, too. Don't remember when or where I got them. Looks like we won't need a barrel after all. A friend, who is a machinist, is in the process of building a FDH #2 Vault Lock single shot action. Design comes from "Mister Single Shot's Book of Rifle Plans" by Frank and Mark deHaas. For some reason, he was going to barrel it for the 7.62x39 ctg., but has now decided to go with the .223. The Argentine barrel runs .311-.312 in the grooves and should work for the round if the chamber end were cut off and re-threaded. He'd have to us a 3/4" thread, though. By building his own reciever, that would be no problem, but I'm glad to hear that he changed his mind. I guess a single shot 7.62x39 would be OK if that's what he wanted, but if I were going to all that trouble, it wouldn't be my first choice. (or second or third or...) deHaas said the action should be good for .30-06 or smaller, but didn't recommend it for belted magnums. It should make a dandy varmint rifle. He is making the reciever out of pre heat treated 4140.

Green mountain sells gunsmith blanks in the rough that are not turned on centers. Prices are very reasonable and quality of the barrels is extremely good. Have built some accurate small critter guns with the blanks in 17 and 22 calibers. Single shot handgun barrels in 30 through 45 calibers.
