I've tried a LOT of grips, and in the price range you suggest, the best bets (for my hand ) are Spegel and Herretts. Note that CDNN periodically carry inexpensive cocobolo Herretts - good value for the money, but nowhere near as nice as the grips on their website which are carved to match your hand size. I've also had good luck with Kurac grips... you can find him on the S&W forum, but his grips are a bit thicker, which is the opposite of how I prefer mine. Still, in that range, his grips are beautifully made and finished.

I don't care for finger grooves. I chose Ahrends and then sand off what I don't like, I have small hands so most grips are just too big. I have found that I DO like the JM grips, most folks don't.

Working revolver or competition revolver - Hogues all the way. They may not be pretty, but I do not like a revolver to move around in my hand. The Hogue rubber ones stay put and do not chew up my tender little hands...

I thought I'd share pics of my 629 3 inch with Ahrends grips. I love the looks, but still prefer to shoot it with Goodyears.

I like the Thailand grips, keeps the dimensions of that 44 in balance, at least to my eye.

I don't care for finger grooves. I chose Ahrends and then sand off what I don't like, I have small hands so most grips are just too big. I have found that I DO like the JM grips, most folks don't. This is my favorite "working gun", and it accompanies me on most of my hunting adventures. I found these Hogue grips with the finger grooves trimmed and decided to give them a try. I love 'em, and have recently learned that Hogue is making the rubber grips without finger grooves. I plan to order a couple of sets. www.midwayusa.com/product/123972/hogue-monogrip-conversion-grips-s-and-w-n-frame-round-butt-rubber-black?cm_vc=ProductFindingI also have a set of grips from Jerry Miculek's company, BANG. I like them OK, but am not completely sold on them.
