I have a 7.5" OMBH .45 convertible that I'd like to mildly customize including shortening the barrel to 6", basic action work (for both cylinders), and a refinish in hard chrome. The gun has damage to the final inch of the bore (corrosion) and the finish is worn so it's a great candidate for a project.
As trade towards the cost of the project, I have a new/old/stock, 6", high-polish blued S&W model 24 barrel. I had intended on using it on another project but the base gun (Model 28) was horse-traded a few years back. I know that some 'smiths use such barrels for conversions and that the barrel is relatively valuable. Does anyone have any suggestions who might want to accept the barrel towards payment for the work?
Thanks for the help.

I know Alan Harton does not like working with S&W ribbed barrels but Andy Horvath and Hamilton Bowen use them. I would check with Andy first simply due to a much likely faster turn around time. Or you could send our 24 barrel to Clearwater reboring and have it made into a 45 then use it on your Ruger. I recently had them rebore a 629 barrel to 45 for a project like that.

Not sure if this helps but my last Harton build was substantially funded by a convertible Old Model 45 Colt. He was quite fair on the "trade". Our best success has been with Al Siegrist for reboring needs.

Thanks for the replies. I do not want to use the S&W barrel, just trade it towards the cost of work.

Check Hamilton Bowens items wanted on his site. He has a S&W 586 of mine and I've paid for most of the work with a few OM Rugers I did not need. To me he is fair on his trade for work prices. Ronnie

I queried Hamilton a year or so ago on a few N-Frame barrels I had including an NOS blued 44 Special one and was willing to offer $100 in trade.

Ouch! I might be better off throwing it on an auction site.
Thanks again
