had any custom work done on a Security Six? Feels like an itch I need to scratch but I've never seen anything done with a SS. Course there may be a reason for that.

I've handled one that was converted to a 5 shot 44 Special..... Too dumb at the time to realize the $550 price tag was a steal....

Not the Security Six, but the same thing, only different! Back when Skeeter Skelton had a couple of 4" Ruger Police Service Six revolvers round butted for carry, they've held my interest. Several years ago when acquired a square butt stainless steel Ruger Police Service Six 4"er, I reworked the square butt into the round butt factory shape (smoothed n' polished to factory look) , then put on rubber Pachmayr Compact grips. Makes for a handy trail packing iron. In general haven't seen a Ruger Service Six with custom work, except some engraving, other than hearing about a Speed Six converted by Bowen Custom to a 5-shot .44 Special. Not sure if it's ok to put the web site in here? www.sixguns.com/BookOfThe44/bot44c20.htm
Seems the Ruger's are pretty darn good as is outa the box...

If I wanted to toy it would be with a Smith L-Frame.

I have read about that conversion before. Pretty neat, but considering the seller states he will be on vacation from Nov 11 to Nov 25,it appears that it has plenty of time to sell by now.

A long time ago a local gunsmith tuned up my 6" and it is a dream. Very smooth, accurate, and well balanced.

I've had an SP101 done up by Gemini Customs, and for somewhere south of 500 bucks, you could get the full monty done up on that Ruger! The work that Marc at Gemini does runs the full spectrum, from functional to flashy.....

I had a Speed 6 snub, factory spurless hammer that Ron Powers did a great action job on. Wish I still had it.

If you search "ASP Ruger .44" you'll come up with quite a few Service and Speed Six conversions. There is even a thread on this forum with a very nice stainless one. I have some photos I've saved of a blued conversion, but I can't remember where I found them to properly attribute their origin.
