Anybody thought of it?
Bad idea? Looks like it will "fit". It should be easy enough to ream a .17hmr and put in a heavier hammer spring.
A 10" barrel and scope would be sweet.

Ruger made a few versions of the Single Six in 17 HMR. There are blue and stainless 17HMR Single Sixes. I think the one I kept is a 6.5 inch blue.

We have at least on NIB here in the shop, perhaps two. Stainless, with I believe a 6.5" barrel.
Let me know if you are interested.

Not HMR, WSM. Its a new caliber chambered only in a new savage rimfire bolt action. Fastest rimfire ever, they say. Maybe most powerful, too.
I'm surprised it'll fit in the SS. Does it have any body taper to contend with? Very difficult to handload! Seems like a centerfire 17 wildcat would make more sense.

Well we flubbed that question pretty good didn't we.. Sound s like a fun project to me. May be a firing pin problem. Isn't the case head on this new 17 larger than a HMR? The HMR case head is 22 mag size.

Rim diameter of .333in, 33,000psi max, 3000fps with a 20gr bullet. 1.590 max OAL, 1.200 max case length. Give or take the accuracy of a google search based on a 25cal nail gun blank, .17HMR rim diameter is .286in, case length of 1.058, OAL 1.349in. The .17HMR will do 2250fps with 20 grains, the WSM gets 3000fps! For a rimfire, I'd say it earns the title of Super Magnum! When you take the standard that most everybody loves and throw nearly 50% over the top of it!

Cylinder window is 1.59. I'd think someone would be willing to do it. Not sure what17HMR is like around y'all, but the other stuff would be unicorn farts around here. PS, grip fit on this gun is depressing. Just did a spring kit, will smooth the dogs later.

Single six hunter is such a nice gun! For a while, 17 was the only rimfire around and there were Piles of it. Maybe that has changed. I suspect I'll never see a round of 17WSM! Unicorn farts will be stinking up the town first!

The 17 wsm is longer than the cylinder of the Single Six. Looked at doing a conversion and would require a new longer cylinder. Also the window would have to be opened a lot. I'm not home where the measurements are. Due to accuracy problems with the round in rifles the project was dropped. A center fire wildcat like the 17 squirrel on the hornet case would be better and cheaper to build.

To quote Mrs. Clinton, I misspoke earlier. The window on MY gun is 1.560. Seancass is saying the round is one five nine. You can see how big my cylinder is, so what. Axe will have Gary build one next week maybe.

ya know I saw several boxes of this stuff at Cabela's several weeks ago... it wasn't in stock the last couple times I was there, but appearently it's not impossible to get anyway...

I think Al Story (Borchardt Rifle Co) still has .17 barrels and cylinder blanks for the Single Six. That would make the project a lot easier.

Don't need to worry about Gary Reeder and a 17... He doesn't do them.

I bet the person that bought it, didn't mean to buy it! or, promptly sold it online... Reeder doesn't like the mini-caliber? What about a 14 or a 10?
