There may be a elephant hunter or two on this forum.
USFWS just banned the import of elephant products legally taken from Zimbabwe and Tanzania for 2014. If your ele was taken last year its OK, it can still come home. But for this year, one can still hunt ele in these countries but you may not bring home any parts of it apparently. It all has to do with the rampant poaching, poor management, etc in those two countries, which will of course probably get worse before it get better, ban or no ban.
Some have opined that the Lacey Act may preclude taking one, even if legal in that country. Opinions vary on that but were I to plan an ele hunt in one of those countries, I would talk to a lawyer first before booking. Not good news for hunters or elephant.

That is terrible news! Disgusting that sportsmen and women suffer because of these poachers.
It's a shame they won't just declare open season on the poachers!

FWS says its still OK to hunt ele in those countries but cannot bring any of it back. Others have also said, what is supposed to happen to the ele parts? In the eyes of the country it belongs to the hunter. I would for sure have a lawyer look closely at the laws before I hunted one in those places.

A friend had his pre 64 458 sighted in ready for the Hunt of a Lifetime in the 70s. Elephant. Working stiff. Ran a lathe. Kenya said no more hunts. Lost his hunt. Dam sad.
