I am looking for a good 454 load. I have a FA 83 with 4 5/8 barrel. I would like to shoot something along the lines of 300 to 340 grains in weight. I am thinking about 12-1300 FPS. Any thoughts on favorite loads?

Montana Bullet Works LFNGC or WFNGC in weight of your choice.
Powder: IMR4227 for moderate loads; H110 for heavy loads. Both are excellent.
On the lighter end of moderate (and with lighter bullets than 300), I have had excellent results with HS6.

I really like the CP 335 grain WLNGC bullet with 28.0 grains WW296 and WSR primers. A six shot string from a 7-1/2" SRH over the Chrony gave me an average velocity of 1428 fps, and a 19 fps extreme spread. Recoil is up there but not as bad as full bore factory loads.
In 454 cases cut and trimmed to 45 Colt length I loaded 22.0 grains with the same bullet and got 1211 fps from a 5-1/2" Ruger Bisley.
In Federal 45 Colt cases I loaded 22 grains WW296 under an SSK style 300 grain slug from a local caster (Liberty Bullets) for 1196 fps from a 7-1/2" revolver.
