Welcome Grumpy! You should get along great with "curmudgeon"! Feel free to tell us more about yourself, your interests. I'm interested in hearing how someone could possibly have less resources than me!

Thanks for the welcomes, more about me. mmmm Well I have a few Firearms 13 in total, a miniscule amount by US standards, but relevant to this site there are 4 revolvers, 2 X .357' a RH and a SBH ( fondly referred to as Big Daddy by a few of my colleagues, but that is a story for another day) I am currently putting spares together for another project that I am busy with and that will be a .475L followed by probably a .500L. built on NM SBH frames and here be the place where the issues lay, Cases are not going to happen, so it will probably be 45-70 cases cut down for the 475, Ammo will not happen as there is no demand here for them. Cylinders will do my own no problem. as for the smaller parts, Pawls and cylinder locks still have to figure that out as no one wants to ship these to me and the local agent has a 6 to 12 month delay on shipments from Ruger and Brownells wont ship Gun Parts to me. Even battled to get stainless for the cylinders but eventually sourced some 17-4 but with a lot of wastage and no one here has even heard of Custom 465 which is what I wanted to use. Frustrated but will win the battle. As for Snow White , she shares my bed, the other 6 dwarves, they met Big Daddy on not so friendly terms

From what I understand, Ruger has a devil of a time machining Carpenter 465. Might be better served with 17-4PH as it is plenty strong. Look forward to your projects and once again, welcome!

Guys thanks for the valuable info it is greatly appreciated I will see if I am able to source 416 here in South Africa, the only supply of 17-4 that I can get here is 3" round stock hence the wastage.

Ah, South Africa! I was wondering where you'd be able to own these guns at all, yet not be able to find parts or raw materials. Do you have to jump thru hoops to own guns there?

Yes plenty of hoops more like springs, if you want to know the whole process i will document it , but basically if you bring your part and abide, you are 90% there in receiving your license.
