JUSTAHUNTER, since when did the cost of ammo ever inter the equation of a new cartridge. As the STW's go. unless you just have to have a 6.5 bore the 7 STW is mighty hard to beat. I've built several 264 Win Mags a great cartridge, but can't hold a candle to 7 STW. IMNSHO

And the 7 STW is just a rehashed 7mm-300 Weatherby.
And it goes back to the 60s-70s at least.
Not a lot new.........

As SIXGUNNER is fond of saying, "Nothing new under the sun " Many of the younger shooters think the 22-250 is comparatively new. I had mine in 1946, was built in 1939. The original "Varminter",name copywrited, by Jerry Gebby.

Far be it from me to knock anyone's choice in pet cartridge or firearm, but I have a very difficult time understanding owning something with only a 700-1000 round barrel life, even if one has the skills and means to replace it fairly easily, as you do, Lee. I figure a barrel is only properly broken in @ 100 - 200 rounds, then there's load development and once we finally find a load the rifle likes, we're.... 1/4 - 1/3 of the way through the bbl's life? I'll stick with my sissy cartridges.

maxcactus.... read somewhere the Krupp railroad guns of WW I had a barrel life of 50 to 75 shells. Of course, the damage that Lugerhead cannon caused on Paris was considerable. Allied commanders ran to John Moses Browning for an explanation of the horrible weapon. Browning said, in effect, and I can hear the music now, "Take it easy boys. The Heinie can't build but a few of them guns. Get your ballistics boys out there to time the explosions, study the impact zones. They should be able to triangulate where the rounds are coming from." .
The 378 Weatherby necked-down to 264 and using bonded-core partition bullets does a pretty good job on charging bull prairie dogs out past 50 yards.
