I've broken in my M1894 .44 and come up with a useable hunting load. For you Marlin leverguns owners, what do you consider "gotta have" upgrades ? Since I'll probably use both spec and mag loads, and nearly all reloads, the Wild West improved extractor seems a smart thing. Then maybe a receiver sight, say a Skinner ? Options, opinions ? steve

The WW extractor ,along with a SS follower are nice but not needed. The WW happy trigger I feel is a must :-) skinner ,xs or Williams foolproof ....etc will also greatly help accuracy!

I have one of the octagon barreled cowboy 41's out at Ben Forking now. He is slicking the action up, thinning down the forearm wood and having the receiver sent to Turnbull for coloring. Have not decided on sighting options at this point in time but either receiver or tang will probably be added. Oh, he is alsodoing the buttstock through bolt installation on this gun.

Yeah, Marlin is a somewhat generous with the forearm lumber. I'm just looking for 3-4 ideas. Probably only go forward with a couple. All to the function or accuracy side of things. TGC, not to worry, no quad rails and such in mind ! Not even a scope. steve

I've done a couple builds ( a 50 A.E. conversion on a 44 Magnum ) & a couple add on's to my stainless Guide gun... I did buy a WW big loop lever... got big hands, & there is still not room for 4 fingers, but I have more room for gloved 3 fingers... I also added fiber optic to my Guide Gun... rear sight is a Williams fiber optic ghost ring, that fits into the rear sight base screws, greatly increasing the sight radius, & IMO shootability... I also added a combo leather butt cuff, ammo holder, & can keep 5 cartridges in the loops I've heard good things about the happy trigger, but haven't "needed" one yet... BTW... also removed the safety on my 50 A.E. since it was built around dangerous game defense... ( I don't recommend that mod to just anyone ) BTW #2... anyone know where to get a good stainless dovetail filler cap to put where my factory sight used to sit

Safety delete, stainless follower, skinner or XS sights....maybe a safety delete with a saddle ring. The larger lever loop would be a nice option but my 1895 doesn't have one yet....

My brother-in-laws 1894 was sent to Jack Huntington for a full action job, the gun runs on ball bearing now. I would also suggest having him slightly reshape the lever, break edges and polish, so its easier on the hands.

I hadn't considered FO sights before. The rifles most serious usage would be at first/last light, in timber, so...I'll look into it. COR, I'd like to talk to you again, maybe a phone call ? How ya doing ? steve

I put the Skinner sights on my 1894 and love them. My 1895S has a composite stock, big loop and extractor from WWG,coated by Black T which makes it a wonderful SE Alaska gun. Jim

Plan-C is now coming to pass ! My plans for this 44carbine were to use as a Penn woods deer gun, then ,maybe SASS, and lastly, had been hearing rumors that Ohio would be soon be allowing pistol caliber/straight wall cartridge rifles or carbines for deer hunting. Just heard we got it ! Two weeks back nabbed two boxes of 240 gr XTP's to go with the 300gr'ers I had. Whoo -hoo !
