Hello Everyone,
First post. And I would just like to say this is an awesome site, as I love big bore single actions!
I hope someone out there can help with my unfortunate problem.
I have a Us Arms Abiline that has been shooting full power 44 mag loads for over 30 years now. Unfortunately, the original transfer bar broke this weekend. Mine is apparently the "old" style at 1.825" long.
Looking around, it looks like this is an impossible to get part. Looking around on the web, it would appear this old style transfer bar is nearly the same as a Ruger. Can anyone out there tell me for sure if I can use a Ruger transfer bar as a replacement? Even if it may require some modification.
I suppose that would be step one. Step two would also be finding a Ruger transfer bar, as everyone seems to be out of stock on those as well (Numrich, Brownells, etc). Could anyone suggest a parts source for either an original Abiline bar, or where I could find a Ruger that I could start with?
I refuse to accept having to retire this wonderful gun.
Thanks.
Keith

Call Ruger for parts. I had a transfer bar in 2-3 days from phone call.

awsm502.... maestro Lee Martin may be positioned better than anyone to tell you whether the two transfer bars interchange. Your revolver was designed by the late Sig Himmelman, who agreed to pay Ruger a royalty on the transfer bar, as the patent had a lot of life left at the time. Himmelman revolver differ from the Ruger, but you can compare your broken transfer bar with the Ruger part. An alternative is to have a very good TIG welder fix yours. Whether it would then require heat treating, I don't know. A call to Ruger Customer Service in New Hampshire should fetch the part quick, cost little. David Bradshaw

Send me your address and I'll send you a Ruger transfer bar. It is stainless and OAL is 1.817" You can try it out and see if it works.

I bought one, an early New York piece whereby someone previous removed the transfer bar, so breakage must have been common? I load it as is with an empty under the hammer.

Robb,
Thank you very much for the offer, but based on Jayhawker's response I called Ruger direct and have two coming to me. I just never thought about going to them direct.
So, I guess we will find out in a few days if this is going to work.
Would still like to find an original, if anyone out there knows a source.
Thanks again everyone!

No problem, I will stick it back in the parts box.

I had a New York Seville on which the transfer bar broke first time I took it shooting. Had the original welded back together, which worked fine. I do suspect they were a bit brittle.

Hello Everyone,
I am happy to report that the Ruger transfer bar fit with very minimal modification. Thanks everyone for the help!
