My Lee dies that I like in every other way, distort HP's. Except for the XTP's that have jacket right up and over the edge. Was a problem with the ammo I was lately playing with for the new M1894 and now with some 250gr HP cast bullets for the specials here. I pulled the plugs outta my old mag dies and my newer .44spec dies. Similar but for length. The profile that meets the bullet is RN or conical, "dished". Do you foresee any issues with me just grinding back the longer one, to a flat profile ? As a plan-B, maybe able to get maintenance/machinist friend to make another alike in length but flatnosed. Just don't want to go to that well too often. steve

Lee, will for a reasonable price, and wait, make to fit your bullet, plugs. I'm just feeling reasonable, and will probably go with plan-B today. steve

Clean & degrease your current seaters, then fill the cavity with epoxy, strike it level & cleanup the outside, and let it set overnight.

Be sure and put some wax polish where you do not want the epoxy to adhere. It can have an tendcy to flow like mercury when you don't need or want it too.

If you use the nose of one of the bullets, you can make a seating plug that perfectly matches a particular bullet nose profile

That's a good idea redline! Could let the epoxy set up some, wax the tip of a bullet and gently press it into the semi-hard epoxy.

If you use the nose of one of the bullets, you can make a seating plug that perfectly matches a particular bullet nose profile That's how I did my 480 seater, it works like a charm! I can't stand the unsightly ring around the bullet nose. I spend a great deal of time casting, lube/sizing and handloading. I like the finished product to look good. Cartridge on the left is before, on the right is after with the epoxy filled seater. A closer view

With those wide meplat 480/475 bullets you could really use a completely flat seater and it would probably work just fine.
BTW: I have the same issue with mine I just have not had the time to fill the seater in with epoxy.
