Is there a difference in the screw assembly of the base pin retainer between the Old Models and New model Blackhawks? My assembly went bye bye in the snow today and I have a spare assembly for a new model but not an old model. It looks like it would work but...?

Fowler.... can't imagine why there would be a difference, but I haven't had f to find out. Call Ruger customer service. I keep a screwdriver filed as a spanner for the nut end, and check the screw & nut when going about periodic maintenance, or whenever intuition says to. David Bradshaw

It depends upon the age of the OM. I know some of the earliest ones are a bit different. However, I do not think the difference is in how they fit or work, just in looks. (Blind nut cap vs a drilled through if my memory is correct.)

I installed the retainer and it seems to be back to normal and happy, I thought it might but the differences that might have been between the two often are not obvious to eye...

I put a dab of the Blue Chapstick Loctite on mine no need to check it anymore.

When I picked up the #19 6 shot 45 by John Linebaugh earlier this week there was a small baggy with a little screw piece with an allen head on it. As I looked the gun over I found where John used these on his base pin retaining set up. No springs, just a tightened down retaining "rod" that you have to use an allen wrench on to remove the base pin and thus the cylinder. It answered my question as to why the end of the base pin did not have a locking piece like a Bowen of Belt Mnt. piece. It was the first time I had seen that arrangement for base pin retention.

I have often wondered why no one has done this for base pin retention.
