I never thought I would be exited about buying overpriced primers! I figured I had a pretty good supply of components to last me through the election fallout, I was wrong, ran out of large pistol primers over a month ago Forced myself to go to the gun show Saturday morning (Hate gun-shows) and was able to get there before the primers were all sold out and scored a case, just had to tell somebody! There were plenty of firearms to be bought, but the frenzy to buy ammo and primers was something to see.

I don't know where you are located but here in Montana things are starting to turn around. More powder and primers with some reasonable prices depending on the store and I even saw a few cases of .223 ammo at one store.
I can't wait for the next gun show in September just to see what's around.

I'm in Las Vegas, the show was a Cross Roads of The West at the Tropicana Hotel. Brass and bullets are showing up at the local shops, powder is hit and miss, primers can not be found unless your very lucky at delivery time. I must admit it is getting much better than a few months ago.

You know, its funny when you run into these things. I opened an ammo can yesterday to get some 9mm ammo out and there was a brand new box of 1000 WLP sitting in there so I added it to the stash last night, it made my day

I went to a gun show Sunday in Mesquite,TX, I saw several boxes of primers for sell for around $45 to $48 per thousand. I still think that's high and hope as supply catches up with demand they will come down more.

Ricky, I think that is what they were going for also for 1000, I was able to get a case of 5000 for $160 plus the entrance fee of $15.00 I was able to get the cost around $35.00 a thousand.
I noticed that the Winchester large pistol primers specify for standard and magnum loadings, when did that start and how do they work for magnum loads? I'm more of an Federal primer guy!

Winchester large pistol have been standard and/or magnum for years now. I usually buy Federal or CCI, but I've had good results from Win too. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I believe Winchester has done the same thing with their large rifle primers also now.

I used to use nothing but CCI for all of my reloading. A few years ago I found a regular supply of WLP for $8 less per thousand and started using them for all large pistol with the exception of CCI 350s that I still like for H110.

Fortunately, I listened to the guy who got me started in reloading and have always bought in bulk and always purchased double what I thought I was going to need.
That man's advice kept me and my Dillon 650 from ever running low during this recent mell of a hess.
The latest prices at the July Gunshow in K.C....$30-55/k I noticed the guys "selling" the $55 primers hauled them home after the show on Sunday.
If you are patient, I suggest a C&R FFL. You will get dealer pricing from Grafs and others. My friends and I went together in January and placed a bulk order for Wolf primers (LP & SP). At $89/5k they were a pretty good deal. We ended up getting Magtech because thats the brand managed to come in...we got our SPs (LPs are still on order)...but $110/5k sure beats the street/show prices...but you really gotta buy in bulk to make it work...and you have to keep a stock on the shelf so that when the "shortages" occur you are not forced to buy at the higher prices.
Glad you found your primers!
Bob
