Best of luck to the OP. In this world a person should get what they want. Outside of the previously mentioned experience with the 50-110 the absolute hardest I have ever been hit was by a Ruger No.1 Tropical in 458 Win Mag. That rifle burnt me from ever owning one in any caliber, and even considering a trip to Africa, even if I could afford it. You should try my home grown 458 Mauser with the flat steel buttplate.... No thanks! I shot Lee's 7-lb .450 Ackley and I prefer the abuse dished out by my .50 Alaskan revolver to that monstrosity. Your .458 doesn't look fun at all to shoot -- haha!!

FWIW, you can get 2,400 FPS with 350gr and Alliant MP300 in 26" of barrel with the 500 S&W

I wanted a Ruger #1 in 50-110 because it had historic nostalgia and brass is relatively available. Before I took any steps to build it I found a Winchester 1885 BPCR in 50-90 and am currently waiting for a mold from LBT and tracking down a set of dies. Certainly something intriguing about the 50's.

Yes that #3 in 45-70 definetly will get one's attention. George Nonte got one from Ruger before the original release, we took it to The FL keys to shoot sharks. With a sweaty body and no shirt on my shoulder was black and blue front deltoids to ribs. But getting past the pain was a fun shooter. The #1 Tropical was brutal off the bench trying to sight in. Even with underpowered factory 500 gr. solids. I'm just that into self abuse.

Sorry it's taken so long to answer. Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately due to a shoulder injury the project is shelved for now. Anything above a 22 is out for now. Eventually I will get it done.

Wanted all he could get from it. Norma 205? Might have been the best....... Years ago. Great looking bullet. Shoot from a post. The bench was brutal.
