Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone...... Don't think you did. And Bushog is, of course, right that this is as cheap as you'll get into a big bore n frame in this condition. If you wanted a 44 special in this configuration I would think your best bet to retain value would be to find a minty factory 1926 for $3000 plus. I'm sure bowen could build one as nice as S&W did pre-war, but not nicer. And for what it's worth I've been sorely tempted by this gun, but I have a long term affection for the 45 Colt. It's an itch the 44 special just doesn't scratch, for me.

Regarding the short cylinder, and Bushog please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it would still take SAAMI spec ammo.

It will and I have shot the Keith style 250 or 255gn (H&G 503?) bullets out of it.
I think I remember Hamilton saying that he regulated it with the Black Hills .45 Colt Ammo (250 Gr. RNFP Velocity 725 FPS).
My loads shot a little high for me...go figure.

All,
I would also take a partial trade for an adjustable sight FA model 97 (i am not interested in the 83's as i have small hands!) in 44 or 45 with a 4-5 inch bbl, if that helps anyone out!
Bushog, thank you for the assist!

This is a very fair price! Especially when you consider it has Keith Brown grips on it. I have 2 38/44's at Stroh's shop being converted to a matched set in 44 special. It ain't cheap!
