Here I am outside the city limits but within sight of a grade school so I use a super Calibri or two in the noggin after I've taken the trap into the garage. No one hears or sees and the critter goes in the garbage can.

If it has rabies...drop it off at the White House.

22CB caps are almost as quiet as a pellet gun.

OK
but discharging a firearm on/in property where I live IS against the law
and hunting a raccoon has a season w/license too.

Put the trap in a big black garbage bag. Spray liberally with starting fluid (ether) and seal up. (keep clear of sparks or open flame) When scuffling around stops, open bag and place animal and trap into a garbage can full of water. Say a prayer and wait 10 min. Reuse garbage bag and dispose of carcass.

I have been known to take them swiming. With that said what was he getting into? Is he is getting into the house or garbage? I would fix the problem before i killed him because he has a couple buddies running around that like the same stuff.

Ok, I'm a NC State Certified Animal Damage Control Agent. Let's NOT give advice could cause a person here to get in trouble with the law.
In most states,, ANY trapping must be done according to regulations. Either during a legal trapping season, or under a permit. EVEN WHEN YOU ARE PROTECTING YOUR HOME!
Re-location of wildlife can also be illegal. There are 3 basic type of land. Federal, State, & private. Illegal to re-locate any wildlife on Federal land w/o permitted permission. Most states,, same thing. Private land, in most states it's trespassing to go on another person's property & release animals.
Next is the rabies issue.
Raccoons can have rabies, it be in their system, DORMANT, yet still transferrable. Putting the animal down is the best option, but do so legally. Poisons, illegal discharge of a firearm, etc can get you in trouble. Obey the law & do what is LEGAL!

Give him citizenship of your town. Train everyone in your family to speak his language. Use your money to pay for his kids meals. Then vote him in for President.

If you don't have pets your car might have an anti freeze leak in that old tuna can you put under it to catch the leak? Don't ask don't tell comes to mind. Loose lips sinks ships. A closed mouth gather no foot. If ya catch my drift.

Yes, antifreeze will poison & kill a raccoon. It will also kill pets etc. You never know what roams around your house after dark etc.
In my job, I was told by the state if I do my job as if PETA was filming me and was going to broadcast the footage on the 6 pm news, and wasn't worried, I would be ok.
This Forum has always been impressive in that the members here seem to be great folks. Let's not taint it with doing things or even suggesting things that would reflect badly upon us.
All it takes is ONE complaint by anybody to allow a Wildlife officer to investigate. Besides do we want a friend or neighbor's pet to suffer due to any illegal actions? I've HAD to deal with PETA, & bleeding heart liberal animal lovers before. I've been cussed out, called names etc. I've never even done anything other than my job legally.
So suggesting illegal activities on an open board is just a way to allow anybody like PETA MORE reasons to hate us.
We are better than that here.

I agree ,lets us state all, but be within the law here.
we have free will, all living animals do too
but when they attack you "the only way to beat the law is be the law"
that damn coon got out of his cage ..he's a smart one.
I hope he heads for Florida...HA!
