I'm in the middle of your #4 and it is good if you like or are interested in that topic. Terry is a real scholar of the British and German makers and I enjoy his writing style. I have but haven't started Vintage British Shotguns, too.
The Sharpe books are available as reprints by the NRA and these are relatively inexpensive and readily available plus they have the updates and revisions after The War. Alibris is a good place to look (but they won't be interested in your Amazon card).

COR, great post and thank you! I was wondering if i should get "Sixguns" or "Hell I was there", but I think I'll do Sixguns. I was also wondering which of Taffin's books to start with, so i'll give that one a look. I'll probably get one of his. I'd also been thinking about Death in the Long Grass for a while, so i'll probably add it to the list. I think i can get Sixguns, Death, and a Taffin book all for under $100, probably also pre-order Prasac's new one. I just made a shopping cart containing the following books: 1. Death in the Long Grass, Capstick 2. Custom Rifles: Mastery of Wood and Metal, Turpin (any better books for looking at beautiful guns, tips on building and using such things?) 3. Sixguns 1961 Edition, Keith 4. Dangerous Game Rifles, Wieland Unfortunately, the gift card isn't here yet so I'll have to wait to place my order, but i think it's going to look a lot like the list above. I've got all of those and think it's a good start. You might also want to subscribe to the Double Gun Journal. Unfortunately, it's no longer available from book stores.

Craig, back when DGJ was in stores I bought it pretty regularly, but found i rarely read it cover to cover. Sometimes I'm just not excited by fine shotguns or some other European guns. I do occasionally pick up an old copy and flip thru it, just doesn't always grab my attention. I do usually pick up African Hunting Gazette, as long as the gun articles in the back look interesting. I'm much more interested in firearms than I am hunting.
I placed an oder on Amazon earlier this week. 1. Sixguns 2. Death in the Long Grass 3. Dangerous Game Rifles, Wieland 4. Gun Craft: Fine guns and gunmakers in the 21st Century 5. The Art of the Rifle, Cooper 6. Cannonball Run, Reynolds 7. World's Fastest Indian, Hopkins
I think there's enough here to entertain me for a while!
