Match #40 IBS VFS 100 Meters Black Creek Gun Club, Mechanicsville, VA __________________________________________________- I finally won. Every September, Black Creek holds a 100 meter score match (100 meters = 109 yards). I did well on the warm-up through record #3. The flags were mostly orange, meaning right-to-left wind. It wasn’t stiff but the air was weird. Just when you thought you had it figured out, shots strayed off the X. I found a condition and held 4:00 inside the 10-ring. Fortunately, that worked on orange. Then the flags went green on targets #4 and #5. I really struggled on those, scoring only 2 X’s each. Reckoned I blew my chance at a win by not finishing strong. As luck would have it, I had the tie-breaker on a 250-17X. When 17 X’s wins at 100, you know the conditions were a factor. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Match #41 IBS VFS 200 Yards Fairfax Rod & Gun Club, Manassas, VA ___________________________________________________ We had heavy rain last weekend and I suspect that kept the competitor count low. Eight guys showed up for the 200 yard match, shot under dark skies and heavy air. I danced around the X all day as seen below (the dot is only 0.125” @ 200 yards): There were only two of us that were clean going into the last target. That is until I dropped a point on bull #4. Everything felt right except the bullet went low, missing the 10-ring by a hair. I finished 4th. Key lesson on the day – watch the entire field of flags. I know the importance of doing so, but sometimes get tunnel vision on my row of vanes. All day, I had shots print below the desired POI, relative to my POA. In speaking with a fellow competitor, who shoots a lot of 1000 yard, he gave me his take on the range. The field is situated between two other ranges. To the left, and high on a hill, is one protected by a bunch of trees. To the right is another range, largely downhill. He surmised that as air flows left to right, wind comes over the hill and down on the left hand side. It then flows up and to the right. We saw mostly left to right all day and I was located on the left half. That air could be coming down on my vanes, making the streamers point 6 o’clock. However, the tails on the flags farther to the right pointed up. Seeing that would require me to hold higher at 10 o’clock. It’s too late to test the theory now, but next time I’ll shoot the condition on the sighter. I was supposed to be heading to the IBS Nationals in North Carolina today. Hurricane Florence put an end to that. IBS rescheduled the event for October 27 - 28. They are shooting 100 yard in Bowmanstown, PA on Sunday so I’ll head north instead. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Match #42 IBS VFS 100 Yards Bowmanstown Rifle Range, Bowmanstown PA ______________________________________________ I shot a 100 yard match in Bowmanstown, PA on Sunday. Always enjoy traveling to that part of the country; the Poconos are very scenic. Historic Jim Thorpe, PA 50’s era, roadside lodging: The Match Director’s scoring program conked out late in the day. They shared the rankings verbally at the end. Until IBS posts final results, I won’t know exactly where I landed. Based on the announced results however, I think I got 6th or 7th out of 25+ competitors. My score was a 250-20X. The winner took the match with a 250-23X. I plan on getting back to technical and historical BR posts soon. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Match #43 IBS Maryland State Championships – 100/200 Yards Thurmont, MD ____________________________________________________________ The IBS Maryland State Score Championships were held September 22 – 23rd. Saturday was the 100 yard segment and we faced very tough wind. I finished 6th out of 26 and stayed clean with a 250-19X. Sunday was 200 yards and in lieu of switchy wind, we got steady rain. But calmer conditions made for an easier day managing the flags. I took 10th place at 200 with another 250. My final agg of 500-26X gave me 8th place overall for the event. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Any pics of the rail gun yet? Embarrassed to say I haven't done the barrels yet. I also need to buy a scope; probably the new March 48X. Just been too busy shooting matches and making bullets. But here's my new rail. It's the integral round inlet that most competitors are moving to. Jay Young anodized it exactly as I wanted - medium charcoal: The Delrin sleeve was cut for 1.45" unlimited barrels. I have two 13.5 twist Lederers that'll get chambered in the offseason. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

That rail is beautiful. Can't wait to see how it shoots when you get it barreled.

Match #44 IBS – 100 Yards VFS Black Creek Gun Club ____________________________________ Saturday I shot a 100 yard match at Black Creek Gun Club. My score of 250-19X was good for 3rd out of 15. Second place was also a 250-19X, but he took position on the tie-breaker. The winning score was 250-21X. Interesting side note. This was the 40th firing on my first batch of Stingray brass. I’ve never annealed the necks and they still shoot tight. Proof can be seen below. On the last target I had three left in the block. Using a center hold on a mild left-to-right wind, they all went same hole. Says a lot about the quality of Lapua brass. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Match #45 IBS – 100/200/300 Meter VFS Orangeburg, South Carolina _____________________________________ The IBS circuit took us 500 miles south to Orangeburg, SC for a two day, three yardage event. This was a meter match, so 9 yards was added to our normal distances (109. 218, and 327 yards). Orangeburg is known for switchy wind, blinding sun, and high mirage. Last weekend was no exception, and following Hurricane Michael, the wind was harder than usual. Attendance was stout with 58 guns on-hand. I shot well Saturday morning at 100M with a 250-19X. That was good for 11th place. Moving to 200M in the afternoon forced many to clamp umbrellas to their bench. Peering through my scope, I quickly found out why. The sun directly shined on my objective. Coupled with heavy mirage, I couldn’t cleaning see the target. The rings were a blur, which made holding off all the more difficult. I dropped points on my first three targets until a fellow competitor, on a separate relay, lent me his umbrella. I shot clean 50’s on the last two targets. But the damage was done and I landed in 31st place at 200. Sunday brought 300 meters and the air was even more intense. The flags wouldn’t stay put for more than a few seconds at a time. I’d shoot a sighter, figure my hold off, then return to the record bull. However, by the time I got realigned, the wind was doing something completely different. I finished a disappointing 40th at 300 and ended-up in 34th position in the Grand Agg. Setting flags Friday afternoon for 100M: Early Saturday morning: Saturday afternoon’s sun and umbrella workaround: Lots of cleaning and reloading going on: 300 meter view: 100 meters with 300 meter backboards in the distance: The winners. My good friend Wayne France, who I traveled with, won the 200M leg and overall Grand Agg (2nd from the left): Another neat aspect of traveling for matches is trying local haunts. We ate at a general store/restaurant that resides in turn of the century buildings: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Lee that rail looks like something of the International Space Station! Way too complicated a sport for this poor clod hopper but I love seeing what a good man behind a good rifle can do.
