Lee I was reading through the last page worth of postings on this thread and noticed you mentioned Bob Hart of Hart barrels. When I took my son elk hunting in Colorado last year the guide has guided Bob on several elk hunts in the past. He has three of Bobs rifles in his safe that he has taken as payment for hunts. When my son was having troubles with my fathers old model 700 Brian took us to his range with all three Hart rifles and let Spence shoot all of them and pick the one he shot best. The next day he shot his 5x5 bull out in the valley at 435 yards with that Hart 300 Ultramag and took the wind right out of its sails. Brian said “those Hart rifle do shoot!”.

Match #36 Fairfax Rod & Gun Club IBS VFS 100 Yards ________________________________ Last Saturday was hot with considerable mirage. If not for one bad shot, I was on-track for a nice finish, likely top five. The warm-up session built confidence. I scored a 50-4X, narrowly missing the last X (all four X's were wipe outs). Record target #1 started strong when my sighter cleanly took the X. This was followed by wipe outs on bulls 1 & 2. When I came off the gun to assess the flags, I saw the same condition as the first three. I quickly moved to the next bull but got "caught". Just as I touched the trigger, I saw the last flag go 180 degrees, moving hard left. There’s no putting the brakes on a 1.5 ounce trigger. As my finger made contact, I watched the fourth flag run left through the scope. The gun recoiled and I crossed my fingers before checking. Sure enough, that stiff change pushed the bullet into the 9 ring. It was close, but I definitely missed the mothball. I ended-up in 12th place with 19X’s. Counting the warm-up, I hit 23 out of 30. Not bad, but I sure wish I could’ve had target 1, bull #3 back. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Match #37 Bowmanstown, Pennsylvania IBS VFS 100 Yards _________________________________________ Bowmanstown Rifle Club is located in the Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania. I shot there for the first time Sunday and finished in 2nd place. Equally rewarding was seeing my friend Shinny get 20X's and 6th spot shooting my bullets. He came in 2nd with them the match before. It’s a neat old range, nestled way back in the hills. I have no idea when it was built, but I’d guess 1950’s. My bullets finally made it to the winners circle. Good friend Shinny Shinglock steered them to a 250-24X at the Sulphyr Springs, PA IBS match. One X away from perfection. Counting the warm-up, he drilled 29 out of 30 X's (they're 0.0625" in diameter, 100 yards). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Match #38 IBS 200 & 300 Yard Score Nationals Thurmont, MD _________________________________________________ This was the first half of the 2018 IBS Score Nationals. The 200-300 yard legs were held at Thurmont, MD on August 4th and 5th. My shooting was quite mediocre. I finished 29th out of 41 on Saturday at 200 yards. Sunday brought 28th place. Was hoping to place higher, but the competition was pretty stiff. In fact, a new 200-300 yard aggregate record may have been set (it’ll be confirmed by the IBS at season end). The Nationals hold drawings for products donated by match sponsors. Top prize was a 42X Nightforce Competition scope. I was fortunate enough to win a Krieger barrel blank of my choice (it’ll be a HV .30 cal 1:18 twist like I’m shooting now). The second half of the Nationals is in September (100/200 yards, Ashe County NC). Select photos: It wouldn’t be Thurmont if there wasn’t flooding. The range runs alongside the Monocacy River. When we arrived at 6:30 AM Saturday, the scoring trailer was taking on water: By day’s end, the water had risen a few feet. Match #39 IBS Virginia State Championships, VFS 100/200 Manassas, VA __________________________________________________ The IBS Virginia State Championships were held on 8/11 - 12. There were 29 entries in VFS, 6 of which are currently top-10 ranked in Shooter of the Year points. Typical for August, it was hot and humid. Wind was moderate and mirage never got as bad as you’d expect for the conditions. I shot a 250-22X at 100 yards on Saturday. That was good enough for a 2nd screamer decal and third place for yardage. We moved to 200 yards on Sunday, where I stayed clean with a 250-7X. I got 3rd place overall in the event agg. Setting up the backers at 200 yards. These sit behind the targets to confirm crossfires: Looking towards the firing line from 200 yards: I was again selected to be a referee. Three out of the last four times I’ve ref’d, potentials records have been set. At the Bud Pryor, good friend Wayne France shot a new three yardage record agg. Last weekend at the Nationals, Dewey Hancock set a new 200-300 record agg. Then on Saturday he shot a perfect 250-25X at 100 yards. In all three instances, the referees have to sign the targets. Below is a picture of me signing at the Nationals. These potential records will be reviewed by IBS at season’s end. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

First, it takes an ACCURATE gun, in this case rifle. Second, it takes an ACCURATE bullet. Third, it takes an ACCURATE load. this is the order of importance. In our talks, I don’t mention the shooter----unless Lee brings it up, and he does. Always.
We----if I may speak collectively for the audience----have known for some time Lee Martin has his equipment in order, right down to swaging his own bullets for unforgiving benchrest exactitude.
Now it is time to mention the shooter. A sharpshooter acts in the present; there is no past, no future in a SIGHT PICTURE and TRIGGER SQUEEZE. The bullet admits of no past and no dream; it has no imagination. “Straight,” as in straight shot, is defined by the utter absence of distraction----the owning of the bullet. To own the bullet over and over takes rhythm, and we see it here. One exterior element elevates this chemistry: CHALLENGE.
Congratulations Lee, David Bradshaw

It has been exciting to watch Lee’s steady progression up the results board this last year. We are fortunate to go along for the ride as he teaches us about all aspects of the challenge. Rifle, caliber decisions, load development, bullet manufacturing and shooting techniques right down to resting the gun on dryer sheets for consistent recoil pulse. You may earn a check in the communications industry Lee but your gift is teaching!

Light Varmint 6 PPC ________________________________ Doyle Anglin of Dixie Guns has been working on my LV 6 PPC stock. It arrived Saturday and I’m very pleased with the end product. He used Alder reinforced with carbon fiber before sealing and clear coating the wood. I didn’t make this easy on him, requiring it stay within the 10.5 pound limit. I sent him the barreled action, trigger, trigger guard, and specified the scope and rings I’d use. Doyle came through on looks, profile, and weight. I have BAT bases and Harrells rings. Next month at the IBS Nationals, I’m buying a like new 50x March off a friend. Hope to be shooting groups with it by the end of September. Action – BAT DS Trigger – Bix N Andy Barrel – Lederer 13.75 twist Chamber – 6 PPC, 0.264” neck Stock – Dixie -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"
