I have been wanting to build a 5 1/2 inch .45 colt Ruger Bisley for awhile so about 8 months ago i got started.I was told that Ruger only makes their Bisley revolver in 7 1/2 inch.I got a good deal on a blackhawk with the brrel length i was after and went from there.I changed out the grip frame, trigger and hammer, then decided to go all out and really make this my gun.I had a round cylinder with no flutes and fit that to my frame.I had to run a chamber reamer through all charge holes as my 330 grain kieth style bullets would not seat.I put a steel ejector rod housing on and a crescent ejector rod.As a final touch i just finished installing a over travel stop by drilling and tapping into the frame window and using a 6-32 set screw cut to length. My next "tweak" is to fire lap the barrel using veral Smiths bore lapping compound.I am considering having the frame color case hardened and a real good blue job on the rest of the parts.Does anyone have a suggestion on someone who can do this and what the cost would be.?Thanks, jim

Thanks for sharing quack (and thanks for the help with the sharing Markbo).
That's pretty close to what I've been thinking about except in 44M.....and now maybe 45, too!
Nice work.

Thanks to all for the kind words and especially markbo for getting the photo's on here, of course this is a work in progress and looks kind of rough as in between "tweaking" on this i shoot it quite a bit.I plan to do a little different set up on the medallions and will get some good grips for it as well.I made a bolt stop latch and installed it to tighten things up inside which worked out well and now that i have the mechanicals where i want them i need to fire lap the barrel and then get the money together for color case hardening and a good blue. Thanks again.jim

11/24/2009: i have added some more finishing touches to my bisley and finally figured out how the photos work on here. 1. I installed the oversize bolt stop that i made myself: This tightened the gun up well, as i have the dimensions set to this frame,i will not need to "block" the action.I blued the part for fitting purposes and it helped with witness marks showing where i needed to trim/file to get the fit i wanted. 2. I made "allenhead" style screws for the ejector rod housing and grip frame. Unfortunately, my batteries in my camera died before i could get a good photo of the grip frame screws. 3. In the photo of the ERH you can also see that i modified the front sight, this got the pistol regulated with the heavy bullets i shoot in t his gun, usually 330 to 350 grain cast bullets that i cast myself. The modification consisted of drilling a 1/16 inch hole at the top of the front sight and turning a 6-40 screw shank down to that size, cementing the sight in with jb weld and filing to fit, then shooting and removing metal till i got what i wanted.here is another photo of the sight.
