Out hitting my favorite LGS and pawn shops today. At the last pawn shop I wondered into I came across this - And THIS peaked my interest - Sorry for the crappy phone pictures. Guy told me that nobody wants it "because it's not a 44 Magnum". I agree with him that it's too bad, fondle her a little more, and then walk away as I thought $485 was little high. As I'm leaving he says he'd make me a heck of deal on it. I asked what's that? He hemmed and hawed and we ended up at $300 out the door. So I put her on layaway til payday. Just a weakness I have when something says 44 Special. Only Taurus I've ever owned was an 85 snubby 38 Special I bought in the early 90's. Shot it quite a bit, carried it a lot and never had any issues. Was it as nice as my Smiths, not even close. Was it reliable and functional, 100% yes. Traded it to a buddy for a levergun and he still has it and he shoots it fairly regularly. Never one issue. I'd heard about the five shot Taurus, and handling it, it's really a nice size. Of course I'd prefer a S&W 696, but I haven't seen any around for $300. If you find one, let me know. This revolver ( crappy cell pics don't do it justice) looks unfired. So, educate me on the Taurus 44 Special. What don't I know, and what should I know. Regards, B

I'd say you did pretty good. I'm not a big Taurus guy either but that thing is sharp.

I've got one of the fixed sighted models that I've had for quite a few years. It's a good gun for what I paid for it. Shoots to sights with my handload and a 240gr cast. Only 'hiccup' was the transfer bar 'leg' broke off. A new one fixed that problem.

Jimmy Wood's got one of those, and I've coon-fingered it just enough to where I'd have jumped on it for that price!

I admit jealousy... Been petting the Taurus/Rossi 44 mag trackeresque snub at Academy locally. I wish my Tracker had been reliable. If it's a good 'un ( and that looks like an 80s or 90s vintage, so it probably is) you'll know right away. Ya done good.

I would have torn my back pocket off, getting to my wallet, to close that deal. You will really like this revolver.

My 441 Taurus shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards with a scope. Kills hogs too!

Hi... I have had one of those revolvers for several years now.
It is fairly accurate and reliable. My son shoots it a lot...on occasion, it goes along with me in my jacket pocket on cool days when I don't want to carry a bigger revolver or one of my 1911s.
I have noticed that it is a bit snappy when shooting 240gr LSWC over 7.5Grs of Unique, which is what I shoot in my Ruger Flat top .44Special. I would suggest a bit less power in the Taurus...easier on the gun and the shooter.

I have been looking really hard at a fixed sighted Taurus 44 Special snubbie at my LGS.... Love the look and feel.

I think you got a pretty nice gun. My opinion is the Taurus is under-rated. I think they are a better gun than most think they are. That should be a great trail gun or SD gun. It should make a good addition to your battery. They are an easy packing gun. Congratulations. Please let us have a range report when you get it to the range.

I have a 441 just like that...when I got it years and years ago, it had one of the lousiest DA trigger pulls I've ever felt on a gun, so I just threw it in the safe along with my "real" S&W and Ruger .44 Specials. One month when I had a little extra money I sent the beast to Jim Stroh for a trigger job and to have him round the butt a bit. Jim confirmed my opinion of the trigger! When the gun came home I decided to shoot it against my Jim Stroh-tuned S&W Model 21 and my Hamilton Bowen .44 Special "Mountain Gun," 2 of the best DA .44 Specials I own. Amazingly, it outshot them both (granted, what we're talking about here is informally shooting groups offhand with cowboy ammo and SilverTips).
Heck of a little gun!

You did good man! The first price was not good but $300 is really good. It looks gently used too. Yea late 80's early 90's I'd say. I have a .357 like that with those grips, but $20 hogue monogrips really improve the handling, not so much the looks though. Probably a better gun than the charter bulldog. I never find deals like that.

One of their best guns. You're going to carry that one long and hard in your outdoor travels. Load it up and let it rip!
