I found a marlin 336 locally that needs re-barreling. I was thinking of re-barreling it to .375 Winchester? Any other caliber suggestions? Can I reform 30-30 brass to .375 Winchester? That is why I was leaning towards the 375. I have a good supply of Federal brass that is thinker than other headstmps. All the other internal parts should work with the conversion? Thanks for any info.

My personal preference would normally be .356 Winchester, but if you already have brass & loading supplies .375 Winchester would be difficult to turn down.

375 is a good one. Heres a good place to start, give him a call and see what your options are. www.35caliber.com/Jes gets great reviews plus he's very fast and reasonable. I've contemplated doing this a few times but never followed through.

.357 Herrett and a 16.25" barrel. A "youth-length" stock completes the package for a compact lever with .35 Remington power.

I've decided on a 35-30. I Already have the dies from CH4D and plenty of Jacketed bullets from a 35 Rem contender i had. I decided on the 35-30 since I already have plenty of brass, bullets, etc. Plus I really like 35 Cal. rounds. Now I need to find a good bullet mould so I can cast for it. Probably a RCBS 200 gr. FP.
Also would like to find another Marlin 336 project gun. My dad was interested in what I was doing and it would be nice to set one up for him too. Anyone know of a good gun anywhere? Condition not a real concern.

since you've already decided, the comment means nothing... but 7-30 Waters would have been a good choice also

my only 7-30 is in a 14" Contender barrel, & I really like it, though I've used it mostly for prairie dogs to yotes, I wouldn't hesitate to use it on deer... it would be really nice in a solid lever gun

Always wanted to do a .35-30. The old timers did this once they shot out their barrels in .30-30, and just had them rebored in .35 . The long neck is perfect for cast bullets, with the RCBS .35-200 GCFN being a great choice. Lastly, you can fire form .30-30 brass into .375 Winchester by simply adding 2-3 grs bullseye, or similar powder, topping off with corn meal, and plugging it with wax. All I shoot in my Marlin .375's.
