Winchester doesn't have a "regular" velo, per cartridge. They list a more premium bullet, a 250gr, at 1250 fps.. So it seems each loading is tailored to a usage or to hit a price point. stevemb

Last eve., tried the first loadings of the Sierra 240 JHC over 22grs of IMR4227. Seems my seating die does not like exposed soft lead and slightly "mushed" all of'em. I gotta wonder about longer range issues then, but at @40yds here in the backyard, with a lawn chair used in a variety of ways as a rest, WOW ! I had several different types of targets out, but the one paper target that got the most attention, say 40 rds or so, has a shot out bull and a grouping of 2". I kinda think this bullet/loading, maybe best kept for broadside shots ? I don't want to be held to broadside shots as I'll be still hunting, not trail watching and won't get to choose my angles. stevemb

Groo here If you got 2 in groups at 40yds that should get you about 4 1/2 to 5 at 100yds. The target zone on a deer is about the size of a vollyball . or about 8 inches for a small deer. this should be an easy hit and any 240gr bullet should work on all but a Texas heart shot, { up the bum]

stevemb.... the Sierra .4295 240 JHC over 23/4227 in Winchester brass lit by CCI 350 averaged just over 1300 fps from an 8-3/8" M-29-2 an prevailed against a full value wind of up to 30 mph, as top revolver at the 1978 Internationals----two years before the first International Revolver Championship. The revolver was accurate enough during a photo session to hit a vertical 2" iron pipe 4x4 shots at 90 yards. Reckon the same load from the closed breach and longer barrel of a carbine or rifle would hit 1500 to 1600 fps, roughly. That bullet is not a lung-shot-only bullet on deer. 22/4227 won't be far behind the above charge. My experience indicates 2400 exhibits to a bit of downloading versatility----that is, with uniform velocity----better than IMR/H 4227 or 296/H110. 23/4227 performed brilliantly in the Smith up through 106 degrees fahrenheit, but I wouldn't up that charge. You'll enjoy the 4227 in the carbine.

stevemb.... you are correct, numerous seating stems, made for hypothetical generic handgun bullet, do not center and correctly press the bullet into the case. Call die maker or look for another die or seating stem. With your arrangement, I would consider it vital to start the bullet into the press as straight as possible. David Bradshaw
