Load suggestions for 173 Keith in 357 NM Blackhawk?

Buying them. I want to find a bullet that the gun likes before getting a mould etc.

Tried some 158 cast bullets and they shot fine, and again, the 158 XTPs are doing well, just not the 173s.

FWIW I've also tried some 200gr gc just because I got them in trade and they did ok but not great.

I have enough XTPs to get me through deer season, hope to find a cast bullet that I can get a mould for that it likes in the meantime.

Have you tried Cast Performance' LBT designs. They're not exact LBT designs from what Veral Smith tells me, but they should be good to get you started. I'd suggest the 185 FN. I believe it's LBTs biggest seller for the .357 mag. Email Veral direct or visit his website:

I haven't but that may be a good choice too. Can you buy bullets before buying a mould?

Veral can tell you which commercial casters are buying molds from him. He seems to enjoy it, supporting the people who help support him. E-mail him, he's currently recovering from an accident early last month but is answering emails, and plans to be back in production soon.

Yes, I have spoken with this fellow a couple of times and he is on the Castboolits forums as well. Seems his Tauruses (Tauri?) shoot pretty dang well with some loads that don't shoot at all in my 686. Just goes to show that there are differences. He also favors soft alloys, which don't work in ANYTHING I own except moust fart hollow base .38 wadcutters at close range.
