I really didn't mean to but I started accumulating a "set" of Mossberg .22 rifles about 30 years ago. What were the qualifications? Mostly low cost. I have several but probably the latest is a 144LSB. I've had this several years and finally got around to shooting it recently. My most convenient back yard range let's me shoot 75 yards so that's where I started. The first session resulted in groups about 12" high and the rear sight wouldn't adjust. The knob turned but the point of impact didn't move. I took a little time and went through the sight and resolved the non-adjustment problem and set out to shoot it again. With bulk Federal 36 grain hollow points, it shot about 2-3" at 75 yards, this using the standard peep sights. Not bad for an old blind guy in fading daylight. I think with time, I can improve on this significantly. It's just a neat little rifle and I have to say I'm pleased. So pleased in fact that I ordered sights from Havelin for another Mossberg in the "set". What are they good for? I don't know but I sure enjoy them. Seven shots (with one real flyer and a .45 from a previous session). Note the 'high tech' targets.

Mark Terry.... many a shooter was introduced to marksmanship with a Mossberg. I consider Mossberg bolt .22s the deal of their era. While .22 rimfire barrels tend to be soft and warrant only infrequent cleaning, dried, oxidized fouling may impair accuracy. A brush with Hoppe's, followed by a patch, may tighten your groups. I love mine, along with the 44s. Another suggestion would be to play with the tension at the barrel band. Other than the trigger. The single action screw is their only down fall. They are spooky accurate though.

Got to love those old Mossberg 22's.!! Just a few weeks ago acquired the same 144LSB and I have just finished re-blueing the barrel and receiver and "refreshing" the wood.. so it looks like the sister to the above rifle.of Mark's..(nothing like nice wood and blue steel) It is headed to the range in a few days...for some fun paper punching to see what she & I can accomplish with old eyes...but I will start at 25yds..not brave enough for this 75 yd stuff ( unless I get the help of a scope) I hope that this one can live up to the "spooky accurate" monichore.... Just a new guy here but I could not resist but to chime in on how much fun these quality old Mossbergs really are...at least IMHO. Look forward to more time on this forum...
