I'm always on the lookout for a good deal/project gun and I recently ran across these. Looks like a bit of honest wear on the Single Six, but the other two don't look intentional in the least. Wondering what would cause this to happen to bluing. Would they have been worth chasing?

If the price is right, but you'd have to figure in reblue costs and know that any gun that goes through a reblue (other than the custom jobs) are worth less down the road. If you plan on keeping them AND get a steal, I'd sure go for it.
Can't imagine what would do that to a finish. I got a drop of elk blood on a SBH. It was only on it for a few minutes but it ate the blue right down to the shiny stuff. I was eating a P&J sandwich and dropped some J on my shotgun barrel. It also ate the bluing down to steel.

Is there any way to actually find out what happened?I have seen guns damaged like that before that have been in or around a fire.

I don't know what it'd cost to reblue what do the insides look like, is it timed properly, & lock up tightly? It'd be a good field gun as is if it does. No worries about the finish taking a beating from hard use.

Ruger web site shows reblueing for $130.00 plus $30.00 return shipping. Newport, NH factory. 603-865-2442. If it's a New Model, and not anything special, I think I would get somebody local to reblue it.

I'm a trucker. My wife put my Old Model Flat TOP 357 in by bag and the underwear wasn't completely dry. I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada at the time. I got to LA about six hours later and. it had rust all over it. When I wiped the rust off, the blue came off with it. When I got home I found a good deal on a Model 67 K Frame 38 special stainless. So far she hasn't been able to rust it. It wasn't pitted, the blue jsut wiped off with the rust

Looks like fire damage. Was in a fire, was sprayed with fire suppresant.

I've been looking at these for a bit now I'm thinking fire damage is quite a possibility.
Jayhawker, your fire+suppressant idea seems completely plausible.
I got wind of these via friend-of-a-friend. Gonna try and see if I can contact the actual seller in hopes of getting some accurate info.

Fire damage was my first thought too.

Just heard from the seller. It was indeed a fire.

Could be a problem, depending on how hot they got.

Could be a problem, depending on how hot they got. This. I would avoid fire damaged guns.

Could be a problem, depending on how hot they got. Not a game I'd want to play. Ever.

Avoid guns that have been though a fire like the plague! They might be OK, but the metal would have to be tested to know for sure.

Fire damage could be huge with the hardness of the gun. I wonder, if it's cheap enough, could & would Ruger test the gun & give an all clear or no go.
