Don't own a pump rifle yet but yours is really cool, trying to talk a neighbor out of a savage 30-30 pump

At our Penn woods deer camp, you still pumps and levers in the camp gun rack. I'd say maybe close to being in thirds, the thirds being bolt/pump/levers. Most of the pumps are Remingtons. Most of the levers are Marlin. The bolts are all over the spectrum. Mine being a 1917 Enfield by Winchester in 30-06. stevemb

JUST STOP IT... I DON'T NEED A PUMP RIFLE... I DON'T NEED A PUMP RIFLE ... I do have the FIL's old Woodsman Carbine 30-06 semi auto... looks a lot like a couple of those Remy pump guns posted... out of all my stuff, the only pump gun I have is an old Winchester pump 22...
I'd assume those pump guns are more reliable with a variety of ammo, than the semi auto's like the Woodsman carbine are? do they take the same magazines?

Yes you do, you need an older Remington 760 .30-06 because they are nice old rifles & shoot pretty well too. The .30-06 doesn't need an introduction! I went to small base dies for the .30-06 & haven't had any hangups yet. Before that now & then I'd get a shell that was really hard to chamber & you don't have the camming force with a pump that you do with a bolt gun.

I purchased a new Taurus Stainless pump in .357/38 Spec. Nice look'n , but I will have to send it back because when I put the muzzle up , like shoot'n a coon out of a tree, the gun unlocks , and the pump will operate by unloading , and cambering another round , without having the trigger operated... I sure don't want to shoot it with the bolt unlocked ......

magnumwheelman.... the Remington centerfire pump rifles stand in their own league. Unlike the Remington Model 742 and other post-John Browning remington semi-autos, the pump tends to hard corps reliability, shot-to-shot Point of Aim/Point of Impact, and enjoys a longer service life. Remington Model 760, Six, and 7600 carbines/rifles lack bolt action strength, as do Remington and Browning semi-autos. I believe magazines interchange, while the semi-autos have a bolt catch button alongside the bottom. As with the autoloader, the pump allows cycling with face against comb.
As later Remington pump's are full floating, POI stays the same, whereas the Remington auto may put the first two under an inch at 100 yards, while succeeding shots wander. As to reliability under ice, the Remington pump often works better bolt sticks like the Remington 700. This has been demonstrated time and again in the North Country. I've run into handicapped guys who need a semi-auto, can't work a bolt or pump or lever action. For these individuals I recommend the Browning BAR. David Bradshaw

You will have to use small base '06 dies for your 760 as well as the 742...they work a lot better if you're a reloader.
