I'm thinking of having a rifle built in 260 remington. Anyone shoot a 260? I like all the 6.5 mm cartridges but the 260 seems the most practical for me since it is based on the 308 case. My main use for the rifle would be for whitetails. Thanks.

The best of the short action 6.5s, IMHO, is the 6.5x47 Lapua, followed by the Creedmoore.
If you're going long action, I like the 6.5x55, or 6.5-06 either of them regular or AI.
No fan of the 6.5-284 or .260 here. Both of these two have issues with seating depth in a short action.

To me the 260 is a natural for F class competition. Or any long range precision comp. However there is no reason it couldn't be used for whitetail with proper projectiles. IMHO

I was in the same boat and went with the 6.5x55 BJAI.
With 140gr HPBT it will load at 2.95". This can be done on a short action with modification to the magazine box and feed ramp. For plug and play, it's great on a long or intermediate action.
I can send you a boat load of info on it. PM me if interested.

I'm also a big fan of the 6.5 x 47 Lapua but also shoot the 260. its an accurate round with alot of good bullets available and should serve you very well for whitetails. Standard brass is readily available and it you want to work on accuracy Lapua makes 260 cases as well. If your looking for a longe range rifle a longer action would work better if your building the rifle as it gives you the ability to seat some of the long 140's well out of the case. For moderate range there are a number of good 120's or Nosler's 130 accubond that do a good job.
