As this is my first BFR I was curious if this amount of misalignment was normal between the gripframe and frame? None of my Rugers look like that. Thanks in advance

It's hard to tell what I am looking at for sure with the different light reflection between the CF and the GF. Maybe you can pull the grips and take a pic in natural light. If you are talking about the area at the rear of the cylinder frame compared to the rear of the grip frame at the bottom, yes they all have that to some extent. I cured mine with a file.

You can see the mismatch here

It is typical. I sent this diagram to MRI depicting the offset on my particular specimen (what you see is a sample from MRI depicting factory fitted micarta). The response I received is that there is some effort to match better on models produced in the precision shop but not for production models. The thinking is that with the rubber grips furnished on the production models this does not show - good reasoning until someone wants to fit custom grips! To their credit they offered to find a grip frame with a better fit if I was willing to return the gun to have the micarta grip panels installed. edit: I will say that is the poorest fit on the Uncle Mikes I have ever seen. Did you do that to expose the fit we're talking about?

I did nothing but take out of the box brand new yesterday. I couldn't believe the amount of mismatch. Your picture is spot on highlighting what my questions was edk. Thanks for providing. I had planned on getting rid of the grips right away but nothing is going to fit such a poor alignment.

Yep, MRI makes there custom grips with a overhang that covers up the misalignment. I have filed the misalignment out on one of my BFR's, it give a slightly different angle to the mating surfaces but its not really noticeable unless your looking for it.

Thanks to Gary Reeder for making this gun where I can feel good about taking it out of the safe and shoot it. He did a great job bringing the grips up to snuff from my original rubber grip post.

Glad you finally got someone to do what MRI "CANNOT"............ pretty sad. Sad thing is they think that is acceptable. I have run mills, lathes, and got started on CNC machines......... that would of got thrown away if I would have run it but they "accept" that a 50 cent grip will cover up the lack of pride in their work? ? When I could get my local to get me work I worked within .0004 tolerance so pumps would not be deprived and nailed it every time and they cannot fit a damn grip frame............. real sad I have built power plants and oil refineries and would be embarassed to turn out that kind of work.............. One more reason to spend the $$$$ and just get a FA if you dont want to wait for a custom

I must be lucky too. Mine was pretty good. Just sent it to Jack Huntington for his grip treatment.

I guess I went running off at the mouth as is normal........... just seems that there have been a few post concerning the BFR's and what folks have bought with ill-fitting gripframes, finishing etc........ if Ruger is doing that as well then shame on them. Doesnt hurt to show pride in your work and when I see things like this it gripes me to no end

Interesting topic and comments. I am a BFR fan as well and own one in 500 JRH. However, in todays world of cnc equipment there is simply no excuse for such sloppy fitment. Magnum Research should be embarrassed for allowing such examples to leave the production floor.
