Is there such a thing as moose antler blanks to make grips with??? I see folks sell blanks for everything else..............Would appreciate a heads up as I would love a set for my bisley

Patrick Grashorn used to make grips out of moose antler. the set of grips on the bottom left in photo on the left are for an N Frame S&W made out of moose. Ronnie

I don't think this is a hijack as it pertains to grips. Any of you know the ins and outs of walrus ivory. I know where there is a fair sized tusk(1) that could be had right. I am told it is considered art as it has carving on it. But still enough for at least three sets of grips.

Finally got ahold of a friend of mine in Alaska. Him and his family are subsistence hunters above the arctic circle. I have some moose as well as caribou on the way. Think I will try a set out of wood first and then do the antler Any pointers on making your own bisley grips for a newbie

I was thinking on this thread last weekend. I was at an estate auction where several moose antlers were sold. They just went too high for me to buy any. I hoped I could get at least one good half of a set to play with. As for making grips. I always fit the material to the frame before I do any serious cutting, or sanding. I drill for my screw eustations, locator pin holes, etc first.
