This guy stopped by my cabin Saturday morning. He hung out in the driveway right out side the kitchen window while I cooked bacon and eggs. He kept sniffing the air. Would have invited him in for some breakfast but I got the feeling his table manners might be questionable. Be nice if he hangs around until hunting season.

That is a beautiful young bear. Looks like you took photo through a window----your only chance. Bear appears to have made it through winter in excellent shape. David Bradshaw

Short of bull elk, bears top my list of animals that just look right. That is a pretty one but too young to pop. Let him spit out a few of handfuls of young one's. Then he will look like this.

Definitely a younger bear,, but a nice looking one! Now, if you left him some goodies to sample,, away from the cabin, he may become an occasional visitor. In a few years,, then you can invite him to become a rug.

Just thought I'd get to it before somebody else. And it might take the heat off of the .45 vs. the .44 thread. Cool pic too!!

He, or she, was definitely a handsome creature. I haven’t seen a bear up close like that for years. Time gone by we used to go look at the bears grazing on trash at the Indian Lake dump up north. That never really excited me as those dump bears didn’t seem to have legit bear credentials. "Real bears don't hang out at the dump". This guy hung out in the driveway for about fifteen minutes. I dropped a coffee cup on a plate in the sink and man did he haul ass. Hard to believe he could get his fat behind in gear so quickly and move so fast. No out running this guy, uphill, or downhill. The way he took off you would have thought he would end up in the next county but he was back about twenty minutes later. He hung out for about ten minutes, licked the rock that I dump my bacon fat on, and eventually just wandered off. Really made my day!

We have one in that size/age class wondering our 'hood too. Kinda neat. Instead of dumping the dog goo off in one corner of the property, I spread it around the borders. Also dropped some of my own in to, by using a bucket in the garage, kinda like camping. This deterred bear from my acreage. I was running outta bird feeders and suet cake cages for a while but didn't want to shoot the guy. Problem solved. He's still around. stevemb

I get calls often about bears in my business. (I am a state certified Animal Damage Control Agent.) Just a few days ago, I had a message on my machine from a lady "reporting a bear that walked through her back yard." Well, I called the number, and got her husband. They saw a bear. They wanted someone to come & trap & re-locate the bear. In NC, the bears are big game, and even I am not allowed to move any bears. I tried to explain the laws to this guy, and was asking if the bear was causing any damage. He did NOT want to hear about the law. He cussed, raised heck with me, & practically demanded I do something. The bear ONLY walked through his yard. And he was scared of being attacked. When he kept refusing to listen to me, I politely told him that maybe he'd be better off contacting Raleigh, & the NCWRC. He then said; "Then why the F*** did you call me?" I (through gritted teeth,) politely said I was returning the call made by his wife. He cussed a bit more at me & hung up. Some people are just plain stupid about bears.

Bears, they put the wild, in wilderness. Even when not in the wilderness, they add to the excitement. Also a good reason to keep a Ruger cordless drill handy. stevemb
