I am considering shortening my 657 to 5" (so I can have a 5" 41 mag.) What kind of problem is it getting a front sight back on the barrel? Perhaps one that will take interchangable blades.

weigand makes a base that drop rite in with minor machine work and uses the classic style interchangable blades

I suggest giving Jim Stroh a call. Here's an early rebarreled M29 with an 8 3/8" 45 Colt barrel I provided. He cut the barrel to 5", rechambered the cylinder to a tight 45 Colt and did a bit more. Very pleased. That said, Alan Harton did this chop job to 5" on a M29-2. Both cuts use the Stroh interchangeble front sight system.
