I am shooting a Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R and I am having problems with the stock base pin. After about 200 to 300 firings the rear edge of the cutout in the pin where the base pin locks on the latch is peened to a slight ridge making base pin removal and mounting troublesome to say the least. Is there a fix to this outside of buying a Belt Mountain base pin?

Any excuse to buy a Belt Mountain is a good excuse.... always! On the peened area of the base pin, is it all the way across the cut or only on a portion of it. It could be a sign of the latch not seating fully. Fully remove the base pin and note the location of the latch. This is fully seated. Reinstall the pin and see if it is sitting at the same location. If is is not, the latch is not fully seated and the notch of the pin needs attention.

I finally got around to checking the latch and pin and the latch is fully seated with the base pin in place. The raised portion is completely around the pin at the extreme edge of the cut in the pin.
