Beautifully written article, Lee, on a sweet piece of artillery. Especially appreciate you're setting the record straight on the quality and provenance of the "Siamese" action. David Bradshaw

Well written as always. I was offered the chance to shoot one of these in a lever gun earlier this week, after shooting 425gr at 1950fps and 560gr bullets at 1650fps in a light weight (although stocked very well) 45/70, I decided to pass as my head was starting to hurt.
It is a fascinating cartridge though, if someone was hell bent on going beyond Marlin levels in a 45/70 it seems the proper step. What gains you can get in a 475 Turnbull just doesn't seem to justify the headache and cost to get. And what they are reputed do to game is amazing.

Thanks for posting the link. I had two more edits to make but I'm glad folks are giving it a read. The changes are as follows: 1) On the 3rd page "Next" takes you back to page 3. It should direct you to Page 4 (which shows the gun in finished form). Here's that link: www.singleactions.com/50Alaskan4.htmlAlso on Page 4 I noted the primers were CCI 300's. They're large rifle 200's, not large pistol. I'll get them both fixed later today. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Out of curiosity I looked around and found a half dozen of these Siamese rifles for sale at reasonable prices. Of course unless one is going to use it for a project there isnt much point in having one for a shooter as ammo is gonna be a real problem.

There are a number of ammo producers that make .50 AK ammunition, however, like our handguns, you will be best served by loading your own in this case.

The 50 Alaskan has really peaked my interest I have a Browning Deluxe 71 that I am planning on having converted. Any thoughts on the following:
1. round or octagon barrel 2. Barrel length 20 or 22" 3. Rear sight XS peep mounted on top of receiver 4. If round barreled NECG folding hood with ivory bead if octagon not sure on ramp but definitely ivory bead
Any experience with possible magazine issues some builders like the original Johnson feel it needs to be clamped to barrel others like Turnbull do not?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Found a new set of RCBS dies on E bay I am also looking for 50 Alaskan brass if anyone has any or knows of someone that some for sale.
