My son (aka Wildman) on the range this weekend with our 1949 Marlin 336A with a 24" barrel chambered in the lowly short range 30-30 reaching out to 350 yards with some handloads in a stiff Colorado cross-wind. First 200 Yards at the 18" dinger - Then 350 Yards - After success at long range, we reeled it in to close range and went to a larger bore in search of success hunting jugs of water. Marlin 336-44 Magnum. It was a good day!

Golden gun club?
Looks like fun, amazing what you can do with cast bullets and mild loads ain't it?

GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My very first rifle was a gold trigger 336 bought at Wal-Mart in 1982 for $140 worth of cemetary mowing, hay hauling, maul swinging and fence building summer vacation money. I caught a lot of crap over my "dirty thirty" but it put it killed a truck load more deer than my family members 30-06,270,243,25-06 and even a 7mm Mag. Thanks to the friend that taught me how to reload, the right way..as in trimmed cases and charges individually weighed to the tenth of a grain I dropped a very large 8 point buck with one shot through the lungs at a later lazer ranged 225 yards.

nice shooting with that lever gun...
I picked up a fake Martini at the last gun show ( such a good copy, that we thought it original, until we started digging into it ) it needed repair, so I didn't pay much... my local retired gun smith buddy likes working on martini's & has several parts, so we got it working & re-proofed the gun ( it was chambered in 303 when I bought it ) we re-barreled with a 30 caliber barrel & chambered in 30-30 ( it's actually stamped in it's metric designation, to keep from getting a steady diet of factory 30-30 after I'm gone, & we stamped it "not Brit" on the reciever ) anyway, we figure it's safe for all but a steady diet of hotter 30-30, after we proofed it...
so as a 30-30 Contender loader, I have a few loads for bullets with better ballistics... I'm looking forward seeing where an original Enfield 1000 meter ladder sight, that we added to the take off barrel we installed, works out with my 30-30 cartridges, in this look a like single shot... well, at least to the 300 yards my range allows for...
did I mention I love those old Martini's, & my buddy has this "copy" looking, & working like an original...

Crazy kids and their crazy open sights... Man I miss the old days when I could see clearly.
