Can somebody measure the diameter and length of the cylinder of their BFR revolver - the short cylinder version? How do these cylinder dimensions compare to corresponding measurements on a custom Ruger 5-shot version in 500 Linebaugh. I'm contemplating reboring/rechambering the cylinder and rebarreling a 454C BFR revolver into 500 Linebaugh.
Thanks,
Muskwa

I don't have on with me at work today (strangely enough, I will tomorrow), but it will work. IIRC, the BFR's are 1.78" diameter, same as custom oversize 5 shot Rugers. (Stock Ruger is 1.73) - Again, thats just trying to recall something without numbers or parts in front of me. A JT BFR shouldn't be a problem at all, but a DM BFR may give you OAL problems.

I don't have it with me up here but I believe my Bowen 500 L is larger than 1.78" I seem to recall 1.80". Perhaps Jefats can chime in with his similar piece. I don't have my BFR 475 L here either (it's still at Warhawk's place to be picked up ) so can't help you there either. Doesn't Jack Huntington replace the cylinder when he builds the 500's on the BFR?

The 5-shot cylinder blanks (by Borchardt Rifle) sold by Brownells are stated as 1.800" diam. x 1.980" long. My reason for this potential conversion is the lack of suitable gunsmiths up here and importing a custom built 500L will set you back close to a grand just for permits and red-tape - on top of the cost of the revolver and the exchange rate.

of course you have to keep in mind that the 17-4stainless used for the FA & BFR cylinders is uncommonly strong stuff, thats one of the reasons that the FA M97 in .45Colt is rated for Ruger Only loads, the 5shot design with offset bolt notches makes it stronger but that steel is extraordinary! i dont see any trouble with converting a short frame BFR to the .500Linebaugh
