Strolling thru Cabelas today I spotted a very nice Remington 740 in 30-06. It also wears a excellent condition Redfield Widefield 4X scope in Leupold one piece base and rings. I really was not in the market for such a rig but I am a real sucker for nice guns made in the 50's. Turns out it was made in 1955. Overall I do not think this rifle has been shot much and is in excellent condition. $349.00 and tax and it followed me home. If I have time I will post a picture.

Groo here My Father got burned on a remington auto of thr same year. The barrel extension got oversized and some pins loose from shooting some hotter ammo in times past. Remember that older 30-06 mostly Grand or millspec was loaded LIGHTER than later or current stuff. Have a good smith go over it. No parts findable and is now a wall hanger. Got dad a Rem 750 short barrel in 3006 and it shoots like house-a-fire.

I plan on loading up some proper ammo to M1 Garand specifications to see if she will be more reliable.
