My friend, neighbor, hunting/fishing partner, former employer, and fellow southpaw named Eric is sadly moving downstate due to family health issues. I've been helping him out with fixing up the house and built him a big double axle trailer to haul stuff in. As thanks for helping him he gave me his Ruger African in 375 Ruger along with brass, dies, and a Saeco mold.
He figures he won't be heading anywhere with mean critters that take a bunch of killin' any time soon and said he'd rather I have it. Likewise, I won't be fishing open water again any time soon so I gave him my trolling gear for fishing the big lakes.
Anyway, I'm normally more of a levergun or single-shot kinda guy but this rifle is worth making an exception for! It handles like a good shot gun and is awful easy on the eyes.
He had some 300gr. full power jacketed loads ready (He is one of two people who's reloads I feel comfortable shooting) and they shot quite well but are bit rough on the shoulder. This thing is light! Maybe 8lbs. The saving grace is a well thought out stock that sends the recoil straight back into your shoulder.
This morning I started playing with cast bullets and Reloader 7. Mostly I was just shooting off hand at old propane cylinders and rocks but with the last five rounds loaded with 34 grs. under the Saeco 260gr. bullet I fired a group from the "bench" at 100 yards.
I pulled the last round (badly) but rest of the group looks pretty good, especially considering the fact that the rifle has express sights. If I can find a good receiver sight for this thing I'll be in tall cotton.
