I've been known to get up on my 1911 soapbox and proclaim that when you buy a Colt Gold Cup you are throwing your money away. Simply stated you are paying for something you aren't getting. Specifically you don't get a match grade 1911. If, and only IF, the slide and frame are good, all you get is a slide and frame to build a match grade gun on. Well now the cat is out of the bag about DA S&W revolvers. Power triggers, extra hammers, front and rear sights, hogue grips... I'm seeing a good $300 each in only parts. Heaven only knows about the labor hours.. Yeah we could mod the original hammers and triggers but I see a need to be able to return the 625s to stock when they start looking for a new home.

I think we've all seen the cost of our customs and associated work go up more and more as the popularity and desire to own these treasures has increased.
Thing that gets me is when folks try and nickel and dime you when you try and sell a custom.
Not that anybody has twisted my arm on any of the guns I've sold but I just find it hard to believe some of the tire kicking going on. Like you said, the hammers and triggers are a couple hundred apiece in parts alone. Try and buy a USFA cylinder for a custom!!!!

Are the original action parts on the 625 really the limiting factor preventing the guns from being match quality? Based on threads I've seen here, I'd think the cylinder alignment, forcing cones, and barrel bore irregularities and constrictions would be the biggest issues.

Match quality so far as the mechanical capability of my personal 625s is not an issue. These danged things shoot pretty good. Haven't put one in a ransom rest yet but my six shot double action 25 foot groups routinely go into one hole. My goal is to increase their shootability. Eliminate that shot or two that ventures out of the single hole every few cylinders or so.

someone shoots much better than I do so much of this shooting stuff has gone up more than my 401K... I should have just spent ALL my money on gun related stuff, & left the 401 K empty... I took some new in the bag, 22-250 cases to the gun show a couple years ago... these are cases I inherited from my FIL...still had the price he paid on the bags... I sold them at current market prices of the time... 4 times what my FIL paid for them 15 years before... I've got a retired gun smith buddy, that is way further ahead with all the bins of parts he has, than I'll ever be with my retirement fund ( & he gets to play with his parts... someone else gets to play with my money... oh to have done things differently )
