An older gentleman friend of mine has asked me to help find a new home for his hunting rifle. It is one of Roy Weatherby's signature gun, the 300 Weatherby that was made in West Germany. Like many of Roy's guns, the style is distinct and load. Thin white line spacers, contrasting rosewood grip cap and fore end, patterned checkering and the big cheek piece. I had one of these guns in 7 MM Weatherby years ago and it kicked the snot out of me so bad when I shot it from the bench, I finally traded it off. My friend is in his early eighties and has wife has recently come down with a rare type of Alzheimers that means he has to provide all her care and learn how to do all the domestic chores as well. He realizes that elk hunting is just a memory and he asked me to find someone who would appreciate his hunting rifle as much as he did. Jim was meticulous about his gear and it shows on this rifle. Other than two small handling marks it looks new. I thought some of you older guys would appreciate a walk down the Weatherby memory lane.

Beautiful gun! Sauer action?
I found that stock design surely does not help the felt recoil.

My late uncle, who was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for decades from the 40's to the 80's, had Roy personally build him a 300 back when Roy used the FN action. He killed a bunch of Alaskan critters with it way back when. I recall it being Weatherby ugly but very well assembled. The stories his game room could tell...

Theywere truly a Classic, a bit much for Varmint hunting for which mine were mostly used for bought 3 just to have and shoot. Then spent the next 30 years BG hunting around the world with a handgun.Early 80's started building my own rifles. Made several sporters and LR varmint rifles and used 300 Weatherby caliber, but found the difference in brass cost over 300 Win Mag just did't offer enough unless a customer insisted. I found various 6,5 calibers more accurate for varmint and Deer sized targets.
